With most tech classes, 100 foot dives are done on air or Nitrox.
and???????? the point is what?

lamont:
If you or Diver0001 or whoever is going to tell me that I need to put hair on my chest by doing dives to 160 on air to "find out what my limits are", then I definitely will never show you any respect whatsoever on that issue.

Lamont, don't let this escalate. We've both been posting here for a number of years and I think we have good (and positive) impression of each other. What's happening here is that we have a difference of opinion. Nothing more. It's nothing to get all frothy in teh mouth about...It's clear that we disagree about the application of deep air. I doubt that either one of us will change our opinion based on this thread so let's just agree to disagree agree......

There won't be any such comparison in most tech classes at 100 feet. I thought the point was pretty obvious.

Mr. Bubble:
Great depth and narcosis scare me. I feel that I could just go on and on, so I have to be carefull. I know that if I tried to go below 130fsw on air, I would most likely not come back up.

Why do you think you would die, Mr. Bubble? Not that it is without risk, but there is no strong indication you would die at 131 feet. What's the difference between 130 and 140 feet?

My guess is that the number of people (assuming there are any) who can dive to 200 feet on air and function every bit as well as they do on the surface is a very small number.

In the days when air was what you dove, people had to find out where they had to stop. Some of them found out as a terminal event. Others were luckier, or more careful.

I feel no need to find my own limits. I have enough trouble thinking effectively underwater anyway. If I ever get to where I want to go deeper than 100 feet around here on a regular basis, I'm going to do it on mix, simply because the evidence is overwhelming that, no matter WHAT your functional status at a given (significant) depth is on air, it will be BETTER on mix. Better floats my boat.

I'm with you TSandM,

I feel that I would die because I become euphoric. I loose any sense of danger, become careless and wish to go deeper, longer. Therefore, I fear that I may not be able to control my ability to reason. Inability to reason at depth results in accedents, fatal at times.

I do not feel the need to prove anything to anyone, and respect those that have pushed the envelope before me. (There are a lot of good books for your reading pleasure available. I recommend Diving Deeper by Bret Gilliam, and the Last Dive.)

I never said that I would not go beyond 1xx fsw. I just know the statistics, and I don't want to become one.

How about Zero

Only to you.

Do you really need to ask and why?
Is this on air? Or on a mix? Rec or tech? And what is the purpose of the dive?
I can tell you all of the above.
