I know the rating of Canon housings are to 130ft. I'm just curious if the average canon user pushes those limits or not. Here's a poll to see what you all think :14:

My Personal Deepest Dive with my Camera was 142 ft...it didn't leak :)

My WP-DC300's only rated to 100'. And since camera floods tend to be catastrophic when they occur, better safe than sorry. I don't take mine deeper than 80'.

Hmm, I'm not sure that the housings are actually guaranteed.

I've had mine to 40m several times.

I wouldn't expect a problem at depth immediately. What I would expect is that the increased pressure could harm one of the components or weaken the housing in some way which may cause a problem down the line. Dunno...never had a problem.

my girl has a case for her ixus v3 which is rated to 100 but taken 130. my a95 casing is rated to 130 but have taken it down to 162'. i think these cameras are built stronger than you think and that their depth ratings are under rated to give contingencies to guys like us. i even have freinds that have taken their 130 rated cameras regularlt to the 180-190 region regularly over 2 years and they are still working fine.

They probably settled on 130ft because it is the sport diver limit. It covers their market and it gives them extra conservativism in Design.

I have had mine to 160'+ without issues on the case, but the camera did show signs of pressure. The LCD screen would turn off/grey from the pressure making it un-usable during the dive. I have had an older one that would display an ERR-3 after 120'......remember that they are designed to work in the sub 100 range and there they do it well.

Hi Chad (we talked before...I'm the guy with the dive shop down by GVB)...
Just a short "fear of flooding" story to share.... Diving on my day off, I'd be deeper than the 40m/130' housing rating. Didn't want to damage the camera, but didn't want to leave it behind for the WHOLE dive either, in case I saw something worthwhile. So here was my solution....attached my dive sausage to it once I got around 130'.....and I continued deeper, "flying" my camera above me like a kite for about 10 minutes, until I came back up to "meet" my camera later in the dive. Would have made a funny shot if anyone had been there to see it, ha ha.

Mine is the same but I have got close to 30m. I just think why push it beyond that?
