Planing a dive trip to Curacao, would like some hotel suggestions. thanks, ;)

It depends on what you are looking for.

If you are looking for an all-inclusive Breezes Curacao would be a good choice (includes 1 free shore dive per day).
If you are looking for a dive resort there is Habitat Curacao.
If you are looking for apartment-type accommodations there are accommodations run by an American ex-pat couple in Westpunt.

You could also check out the the Dive Bus web site (The Dive Bus - HOME). Mark & Suzy put together packages that include accommodations.

There are also American hotels located on Curacao.

The following is a list of hotels from Trip Advisor.com

Top-Rated Hotels
  1. Royal Sea Aquarium Resort
  2. Lodge Kura Hulanda & Beach Club
  3. Curacao Marriott Beach Resort & Emerald Casino
  4. Limestone Holiday Resort
  5. Sunset Waters Beach Resort
  6. Lions Dive & Beach Resort Curacao
  7. Hotel Kura Hulanda Spa & Casino
  8. Otrobanda Hotel and Casino
  9. Hilton Curacao
  10. Papagayo Beach Resort

Keeping in mind of course that when planning a dive trip, the best rated hotels on Tripadvisor won't necessarily be the best for divers, since the people writing those reviews mostly aren't divers. And there may be good places that aren't even listed as they are off the radar screen of the person looking for more typical stuff like a good beach.

If you look at the bottom of this page is will show some threads where this has been asked and discussed before, and there are many many more like those. You really need to say more about your budget and what you are looking for to get more than a list of all the hotels in Curacao..

I just got back yesterday from the West end of Curacao. As mentioned earlier in this thread, it depends on what you are looking for. We stayed at All West apartments which are economical, clean, and near some very good dive spots. (Kalki, lagun, port marie). But there is also an exclusive resort at Kalki also. Keep in mind though, that Westpunt area is about 45 minutes from town and it is a rural community. We did find good food though at Janchis, Rancho ...., and a new place called Solfood (only open Fri-Sat) This place also has accomodations and is mentioned earlier in this thread. It is run by ex-pats. I think their link is curacao sunshine or something similar. You can also email Ocean Encounters West about them or more info. on Westpunt.
Have fun. Kia

Hi!

Kia, I hope you had a good flight back home; thank you again for visiting us in Westpunt!

Let me add some information on All West Apartments for CATWOMEN:

Most of our guests are divers who want to enjoy the freedom to dive whereever, whenever and how often they like - Curacao is a shore diving paradise and we provide you with everything you need for a splendid vacation focused on diving adventures out of one hand:

Affordable accomodation (every apartment features air-condition, fully equipped kitchen, WLAN internet access, balcony/terrace with ocean view)

Diving facilities: In our dive locker you find rinse tanks, storage facilities and full SCUBA tanks all around the clock; walking down a staircase to the beach you have access to our superb house reef "Playa Piscadó"; we offer boat dives to dive sites you cannot access from shore operated by Ocean Encounters West at Playa Kalki (3 minutes away by car from All West).

Rental cars of different styles and prices; e. g. pickup-trucks for maximum comfort for your shore diving trips

There are several restaurants close by Kia already mentioned. My personal favourite is Sol Food for excellent dishes and deserts, as well as a great location and most friendly service - here you meet many Westpoint guests and residents on the weekends.

If you prefer to stay in a hotel with TV on the room and a restaurant on-site, check out Kura Hulanda Lodge or Habitat (both on the west end of the island), Lion's Dive or Breezes (both in the Willemstad area).

Have fun planning your trip and diving our beautiful reefs on Curacao,
Andreas

thanks for the replies. more specifically a friend & I are going to dive but we're not a "couple" so romantic doesn't need to be on the list. from what I've read it's best to rent a car to see the island. we want something that's clean, not expense, good diving facitilites/crew & something close by to do at night. undecided if we need an all-inclusive. any add'l input apprecitated. thanks, catwomen

Hi,
Sunshine here. David and I moved to Westpunt last year from NH. We do have a vacation apartment to rent but I'll give you my opinion about trying to decide where to stay on the island.
We moved here mainly because we enjoy the dive sites around the west end of the island. Our favorite, OK, my favorite shore dive is Alice In Wonderland at Playa Kalki just a short walk down the street (David's is Playa Largu). Ocean Encounters West is our local dive operator, very professional and friendly. Our favorite boat dive is to Watamula, just around the corner from A I W. In Westpunt for lodging you have the Lodge Kura Hulanda, our apartment, All West Apartments (Andreas from SB and OEW), Marazul condos and a few other apartments. Going east, Sunset Waters is in Santa Marta and I believe is all inclusive. East from them is Habitat another dive resort. Daniels is in Banda Bou but in the center of the island from North to South. There is nothing much to do "out west" and we often have divers on the weekend just sitting around together with a few beers and a lot of big fish tales. If you email me at curacaosunshine@gmail.com I'll send you the notes we have for our guests on the west end.
In town you'll find the chain hotels; the Marriott and Hilton as well as Breezes (AI), The Royal Sea Aquarium Condos and Lions Dive to name a few most popular at Trip Advisor etc. For diving and/or night life the resorts and apartments in Jan Theil and Jan Sofat might be a bit too east for your choice of activities. There is something special at every dive site, east or west and the wreck of the Superior Producer is in town as well. If you stay at the RSA, LD or Breezes, you will be quite near a few hot night spots. There are a lot of Europeans who frequent these places, some quite young and the action usually doesn't start until after 10PM. In Outrabanda there is a high end Hotel called the Kura Hulanda (sister to the Lodge). They are not on the water but have a nice setting, the Slave Museum, 3 (?) restaurants and is in within walking distance to a number of night spots and Punda. The Renaissance Hotel (I think Marriott) is scheduled to open in December, The Hyatt ( much farther east out of town) sometimes next year (?).
If you do stay in town, there are not only a number of boat operators but Mark and Suzy from The Dive Bus (again near RSA, LD and Breezes) offer guided shore dives around the island. If you rent a car, we believe the shore diving is quite easy, again most of our experience is at the west end but have enjoyed a handful on the east end. The drive to Westpunt from town is about 40 minutes from the Sea Aquarium area about 15 minutes. I hope this helps.

It depends what kind of person you are and what type of vacation you want.
I like adventure so I tend to shy away from "packages" if they include scheduled activities. I perfer to set out in my rental car and see where the road takes me. Obviously I do arrange for accomodations. If you want nightlife (dancing and drinking) then downtown may be a better option for you because Westpunt is rural and laid back. Again, I tend to enjoy the local culture and my goal was to DIVE, not party. Westpunt was my choice and would be again. If staying at Westpunt, All West was clean and affordable. I did dine at Sunshine's place and I would check rates/availability there also. Groovy people, groovy place and GOOD food.
(PS. Sunshine...thanks for the lemon bread. The blueberries were a nice touch.)
So decide what you goals for the trip are and your comfort level with "adventure"...that should help you decide.
Kia

How close or far, is the Royal Sea Aquarium Resort from the best dive sites in Curacao? Who is the best dive shop in that area?

Thanks!
Pam
