We stayed there once and the only problem with them is they had no a/c but in January you probably wont need it. Of course that was a few years ago and they may have a/c now. Kathy

Just came back from the Caribe Blu - VERY clean, gret views, all new inside and new pool.... they are working HARD.... Also , the best chilaquiles verde for breakfast that I have had... .wow - for $5. I really liked it there. Being able to sit on the balcony or poolside right on the ocean at night was really nice. The people were nice to us as well there and if you ask for it they will bring a refrigerator to your room.

We're staying two nights at Hotel Aguilar, http://www.cozumel-hotels.net/aguilar/ , at the end of Jan. They appear to have a pool and are pretty reasonable $40-$50, and only 3 blocks from downtown. If you remind me at the end of the month I'll let you know our impression.

Good luck. It's um, rustic. The pool is sometimes clean, some rooms have AC, others don't. Those pictures of the pool are a bit deceiving. If you are ok with a very rustic hotel, then you'll be fine...otherwise ou may be in for a disappointment.

However, it's actually right IN town in a great location...1/2 block from the water and within a block or two of some of the best restaurants (French Quarter, Prima, Especias, La Choza, Coco's, Casa Denis to name a few). It's also two doors down from Coffee Bean which has great coffee and deserts. The location is the best thing about this hotel.

"Rustic" will be okay with me. My sister will have to grin and bare it for the 2 nights there before we move to Caribe Blu for the next 5 nights. Stayed at Colonial Suites last time, and found it was pretty nice to stay in town, although the various local kitchens do tend to "perfume" the rooms a bit.

I spent 3 months "backpacking" around Asia in the early 90's, so I'm sure it will be tons better than some of the places I stayed in India. Not trying to bad mouth India, as I really enjoyed it, but at the time some places we stayed were ... If you get a chance do go as it was definately one of the more interesting places I've been to, although my favorite country in asia is probably Sri Lanka.
