Thanks for the compliment, Mark!

And let's not forget to do some some light finning during those safety stops, boyzangirls, to keep those perfusion rates up.

Best practices always,
Bryan

Uncle Pug:
The fastest way is to let a scooter pull you down. :D

Would that require one to yell BONZAI into the regulator in order to get the cert? Cause I'm in, where do I sign up...

That depends on the prop pitch setting vs size of anchor.

I've done it but like I said... unless there is a current or other reason to bomb the bottom I prefer ~30fpm in a nice controlled descent. It is also a good time to look your buddy over and make sure everything is ship shape.

Why would you yell the name of a minature tree?..

I think the japanese version of "geronimo" would be BANZAI, but we should probably get a confirmation from one of the zen divers for the correct japanese phrase for "get out of the way.. I cant control my bouyancy"

I believe in english, it's,

"Pa-d-IIIIIII!!!"

:D

My SB connection is wacko again and this may have been said on this thread but...one thing I"ve experienced on fast descents (finning hard to the bottom) to more than 30 meters is a hard hit of narcosis. It's like doing the four shots of gin all at one time instead of pacing yourself. The only bad time I had being narced was after a very fast descent and breathing a bit hard on the bottom....kind of deep.

And I believe the hand signal consists of random selections from the semaphone alphabet in quick order.

You say Bonsai, I say Banzai,
Let's call the whole dive off!

The USNDM (US Navy Dive Manule) states that a diver will not exceed the rate of 60'/min. Other than that I usally "cannon ball" to the bottom because I am a Commercial diver. Working Divers are used to the fact that We are in dive gear and are generally at home there. In commercial work there are lots of working evolutions that We are to do just that. Pile Inspection, bringing equipment or materials to the bottom ect.
The diver needs to be in complete control and knows completly that He/She (I'm mostly PC) can clear the ears and controls the suit squeeze. ( I'm a diver not a writer, so I don't give a damned about spelling!)
One way a diver cannon balls to the bottom is to desend quickly then invert so the legs are down. In this way the diver can control the rate of desent to a point. One hand is also on the UP BUTTON! (the BCD or Dry suit)
Another tip is that filling the Dry Suit is a lot faster than the BCD. One bad habit lots of divers do when excited is they/We do is to pull on the BCD hose which will dump air when pulled on. It won't slow Your desent. The deepest I've personally "Cannon balled" is to 200' and that was in the old MK5 (for You divers that aren't as moldy as I, that is the old Helmet and Breastplate featured in "Men of Honor". It might have been in the very "Hat" used in the Movie. I was trained and worked at the Commercial dive school that provided the Gear and some of the "tenders" in the movie.) Bill
