Have been diving doubles all year (got my Tec50 cert this weekend!), and need to rebuild my reg for a single tank dive trip. Dive rite xt1.

Hose routing question. Plan to dive with the 5th port facing down. My current routing (rebuilt last night) is for the long hose back right. Necklace front right, bcd and drysuit hoses on the left.

My question is whether to move the long hose to the fifth port and just angle the reg, or leave as is.

Also questioning whether to buy a standalone single tank reg set for the future.

I put it on the 5th port and angle the regulator a little bit. I take the hoses off when I travel, so rebuilding it on my return home as a single or double tank reg wouldn't make any difference.

Made the change. Not going to try to re-attach everything after my flight, so getting it safely into a reg bag may be a small challenge. Oh well. My take it in carryon.

The typical setup below, and it'll coil in a reg bag just fine. I usually take the reg bag in the carry-on for weight reduction and theft prevention (along with the computers).

Thanks. My set up has two more hoses though. One for the drysuit (behind 2) and one for the transmitter (not a GUE diver) - across from 4.

I swap hoses between tech/rec diving and even between different tech configurations. It would be nice to have dedicated regs for every configuration, but I'd rather spend the money on trips/fills and just take a few minutes to reconfigure.

I do the same on the suit hose. I put a transmitter where the SPG hose is marked #4. Keeps it out of the way of the valve handle and a bit more protected than sticking out the top. (I never ran 2 SPGs before AI became mainstream, so I don't feel the need to run an SPG+xmitter.)

Might as well. XT1 regs aren't tremendously expensive, particularly if you buy them used, and you won't face the breakdown-setup-repeat process, which gets to be a repetitive drag.

If you buy a stand-along single-tank reg, you'll always have a spare for your doubles diving (or for your doubles + deco cylinder diving)--which might mean the difference between delaying a dive (as you switch out a troublesome regulator) versus missing a dive altogether!

On the other hand, if you buy a stand-along single-tank reg, you'll have one additional regulator to either self-service or pay to have serviced!
