Used them years ago and have to say no real problems in fresh water. However, diving in saltwater is another matter. Doing three to five dives over many days makes it nearly impossible to soak and wash between dives.

After doing a liveaboard for a week where my gear stayed assembled and we simply unscrewed the reg and topped off the tank I found a good bit of corrosion.

Got rid of all the protectors and have not looked back since. It does make spotting a hose leak easier. Actual bubbles instead of fiz.
