I have used that BC. I have several horsecollar BCs incluidng the very similar SeaTec horsecollar in black. The SeaTec horsecollar was produced up until recently and may still be in production. Mine was purchased new last year. They were quite expenisive and are still used by military and rescue divers because the bouyancy unit stays with the diver/swimmer. Their biggest advantage aside from staying with you after you doff your scuba and weight belt is that they will absolutely float you face up to protect your airway.

You can use your horsecollar BC--after checking the seams over which are probably just fine---with either an old fashion hard pac or a new tech type back plate in either aluminum or stainless. Your D rings go on the backplate (tech style harness and plate) just as they do in any Hogarthian rig.

Because the horseollar tends to concentrate lift under the chest and the weightbelt at the hip if your overwieghted--OVERWEIGHTED---the combination will continully try to roll you vertical and face up. This is a signal that your not set up correctly especially regarding weight. However, unless perfectly weighted there will always be a slight rolling moment.

The hosecollar is the most stramlined BC there is short of some of the latest mini-wings from OxyCheq/DSS/DiveRite such as the Mach V 30 and 18 pound wings. I generally dive a wing with singles with a back plate or even more vintage than the horsecollar--no stink'n BC at all--who needs them anyways--not me. But for small doubles I like the horsecollar. The small doubles and the compact horsecollar BC make for a very streamlined rig.

The inflator hose on that BC should be the standard connection still used today. Some early horsecollar BCs from Dacor, US Divers and a few others are infact different but your SeaQuest should be the same and you can always install a modern inflator to the corrugated hose.

And the best horsecollar ever made--ever--note the twin bladder design:

I am always impressed with the quality of Nemrod's items..

No need to remove that horsecollar when you change your tanks between dives. Divers would keep them on during their surface interval.... walking about on the boat having a smoke.

I was not sold on the power inflator when it came out. My tank was only a 72 cu. footer. I figured that putting "new" air in it was wasteful. Better to blow it up with "used" air.

That wing looks new because it is. My exactly identical one is worn out now after so many years and low and behold I was GIVEN this one for free--wow. That Dacor BC has hundreds of dives on it and it has a few places that need repair but now low and behold---along comes another. I love it. N

How much lift do these have? I used my brother's Sea Quest to dive for oysters in the Chesapeake Bay. The guy at A&P (grocery store for you young guys) would save me those red mesh nylon bags that onions came in. Filling one of those two-thirds or three-quarters full was a lot to swim with. Like a bag of rocks. I can't think of a better device for that task than a horsecollar.

Most are probably in the range of 15-25 pounds. I don't really recall that they used to measure that number like they do now. N

Hey, that is almost the same Dacor I was refering to with the odd inflator- same one as on your BC Nemrod.. My BC is very similar but it has 2 pockets instead of the single zipper one. A different year model maybe? Took me a few minutes to figure out why I could inflate the BC but it would not deflate...dual bladders. I have a source of adapters for that inflator if anyone needs one. It fits on the end of a standard LP reg hose.
