cdennyb:I hope I've clairified this a bit for all here. I'm surprised that you DIR divers don't know this, but I guess now you do, huh.

Thalassamania:I don't dispute the theoretical benefit, hell ... there's a theoretical benefit to just about any old thing. I do, however, have no knowledge of any publication in a reputable journal that suggests horizontal decompression is any better than vertical decompression.
That's not how the "business" of scientific or medical research works. But I get the impression you see it's an anti-DIR plot. I hate to burst your bubble but if the folks who actually know about these things suspected that even a small percentage advantage could be gain they'd be on it in a flash, and most of them have never heard of DIR.nadwidny:And you never will since nobody with research bucks in his pocket would bother to spend his hard-gotten booty studying this subject.
By definition, theory and anecdotes (I don't know why you say anecdotes in this case, it's more like claims ... which are quite different) will not do, and youknow that.nadwidny:So theory and anecdotes will have to do.
It's kind of silly to point out to people that a claim concerning how to best perform decompression has no basis in fact? Hardly. Its worse than "kind of silly" to spread untested and unverified BS concerning decompression and not label it as "pure conjecture, not to be confused with even a creditable opinion."nadwidny:Of course you know this so to ask for cites when you know they most likely aren't available is kinda silly.

These are not matters of opinion, although you can think whatever you want, you can also be wrong, its your right and you seem to use it to the full.nadwidny:You've got your view of the business of research. I've got mine. Obviously we disagree.
I dont know what you read and what you dont, but I suspect there are significant differences between us there too.nadwidny:As it pertains to scuba, I'm assuming that we both read the same publications. All I see is that those that are spending the research bucks are looking for causes, not preventions. If you can get someone to do a study on horizontal deco vs. vertical I would be gobsmacked.
Actually no, because Im not ant-DIR just anti-Kool-aid, and I know the difference between DIR and Kool-aid. So dont try and red-bait me with that anti-DIR crap.nadwidny:You must've been waiting to use that line in a DIR forum for a very long time. Quite a stretch there.
You pose no theory and the semantics in question go to the proper posing of such a theory. Try and get it right.nadwidny:Nice. Ignore the theory and attack the semantics. Weak.
Published means peer-reviewed. If the science doesnt pass peer-review its BS, thats the way it works. And every crackpot thats ever come down the pike has objected to system and claimed that it was unfair to their pet delusion, why should anyone think that youre any different.nadwidny:Obviously you're from the "if it isn't published it isn't true" school.
Now we all know that youre the biggest, baddest, deepest, diver that god ever created. Right?nadwidny:Nice place to be if you're not the one having to put your a5s on the line. For me, since I'm one of those that actually does the dives where this sihte matters, I'll go with the collected wisdom of those that went before me. It's funny but I like to stack the odds of my returning unscathed in my favour.
I dont have to thrash this out with you, frankly thats clearly a waste of time. It is critical that others who read your tripe realize that however. When I need to know I just pick up the phone and call the folks whos professional reputations and careers depend on getting decompression right, those who really do the work, who publish the papers and write the books and give the talks, the ones with long strings of successes (and letters behind their names), not the amateurs with crackpot theories of how to decompress and how to do scientific or medical research.nadwidny:If you really want to thrash this out you need to decide if you want to argue this out at the Scubaboard level or something higher. I can guarantee you that the argument you want isn't available here.
