6 pounds is pretty close for something like the 7mm Bare step-in vest. The 3mm with the hood is probably closer to 1-2 pounds. Even less if you cut the hood off. I have both and need 4 pounds more when I go from 1 to the other. Both are excellent layering tools.

The 7mm full suit and 7mm vest will let many divers make almost any dive they want but probablly only one in the coldest conditions.

#2 I absolutely agree....After using mine on several dives, it is a must, keeps ya very warm and doesn't feel like it restricts you at all. :14:

Make sure you poke some holes in the top of the hood to release air that will enter it from your second stage.

Hooded vests are a great way to add a layer. I add a 5mm vest to my 3mm full giving my core 8mm. This set up takes me through the cold seasons. Come summer I lose the vest and go with my 3mm exclusively.

I add a few extra pounds when adding the vest.

I just got an Excursion hooded vest , i believe a 5/7 and only had to add a pound , im finally warm in the 66 degree water.

I just measured the bouyancy of my new 5mm XXL hooded vest. It came in at 5.5 lb. Changes in neoprene cause proportional changes in lead.

I don't quite get this, I've never had air enter my hood from the second stage.

If you have a narrow face and are horizontal quite often exhaled air will inflitrate your hood. It happens to me all the time. The hood just isn't tight enough around the eyes to keep the air out.

I just got my first hooded vest. I am used to diving a henderson hyperstretch 3mm full suit. For some colder diving recently (72deg F), I added an Aqualung(Seaquest) 4/6.5mm hooded vest (4 in the torso, 6.5 hood).
Worked out great. In fresh water with the 3mm I dive 4lbs, had to add 4 more for the vest. I haven't noticed too much of a problem with my second stage getting air into the hood, but when I exhale out my nose to equalize my mask, the air goes straight into the hood. I could definately see where this would be a problem without a top vent.

Might be to small. Snug is good, tight is bad
