Hi,

The pictures are very good. You guys are lucky to have all those nice colors and sealife. I shall return some day to SoCa.

Ed
Incredible dive today at Honeymoon Cove.
Dropped down in front of the far outer kelp bed: 240 out, 120 parallel, 30 to shore .....

Hey Frank. Went freediving at HC Sunday morning. Nice day, hot, water 68 surface and 66 at 15 feet. Saw 5 other scuba divers, I being the only freediver. VIS seemed very low. Left side was less than 5 feet, and the right side was a bit better at 8-10 feet. Small waves, tide was low, but coming in. Saw a neat Octopus. I am going out on the Great Escape this Saturday to Catalina, any tips on this charter? Was that your white truck with the Dos XX on the windshield?

I have not dove the Great Escape, but from what I hear its a top notch charter. The left side of Honeymoon can get pretty nasty, but if you head far off the left point it usually is good. The dive Vet's Guys dove Honeymoon this weekend, you probably saw them. When your ready to scuba dive one of the local spots, let me know. We should buddy up.

Sounds good. I just signed up on the GE for this Saturday. I'm going to try CTC next time, I noticed out to the left is an outcropping of rocks that looked good for freediving. Again, I'm renting my gear from PW. I have been adding peice by piece, but no reg or BC. I need to research and talk to more people about brands, etc.

That area is really good for freediving. My normal dive plan consists of cutting across the cove and hugging the left edge of while heading towards the point. The shallows in this area has tons of invertebrate life and usually some Hopkin's Rose Nudibranchs. Between that outcropping and the point there is another shallow area which drops of into some mini walls and a good size kelp bed. Directly off the point is my favorite area to free dive on the peninsula. If you feel comfortable free diving down 20ft or more, this area is extremely lush and full of life.
Here's an older pic taken with my Oly 530 zoom while free diving that area:

Deep Sea Supply in Pasadena. I'll bet that if you were to call up Tobin, he'd be more than glad to let you visit his shop and probably fit you up right there with a BC. https://www.deepseasupply.com/index.php?page=contact

Atomic Aquatics in Huntington Beach for regulator. They don't sell directly to the public but there are plenty of shops that carry their products.
Atomic Aquatics - the World's First Titanium Regulator

Might as well support local shops, especially when they put out world class quality gears.
