Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I know everyone here is very "tight-knit", I would really like to join a dive club. I live in Holland Michigan during the summer, we have lived on lake michigan for 6 years now, but i have never dived in it. I will be on vacation till august 15, then I will be working till the 18- If theres a time after the 18 and before september which I could be diving, give me a yell. I have been to "Adventures In Diving" as well as "Ocean Sands Scuba" - Both are great places. I have my own kit- therefore I just need Tank rentals.
Feel free to E-mail me at phillipochs@gmail.com or IM at Philoman2

-Cheers

Welcome to the board! All you have to do to become part of this "tight knit" group is hang out here and talk to us--we're pretty easy to get along with. The only way to "get" the inside jokes though is to attend a "Meet-n-Greet" and there will probably be one in September if history is any indication :D What happens at the M&G stays at the M&G ;)

Individuals usually post when they're planning on diving and you're always welcome to tag along on those dives or post your own and see who's available when you want to go out.

This is a great group of people, welcome to "the club"!

Thank you to all who responded,
I appreciate your support. Are there any restrictions on locations to dive? Im diving in Turkey next week, is that off limits? (Just jokeing)
I wony be able to dive for quite a while, late august at the earlist, but once im back i'd like to be diving twice a week. I know many of the dive trips our of Holland Harbor (closest port) are usually very advanced/technical dives, whom the divers have been diving since it started. Would you guys suggest tagging alonge on that type of trip, or would I just be a liability?

Thanks,

Cheers

I heard you were supposed to be on the boat Saturday. maybe next time?

Advanced / Technical... Depends where we go. We did the Fire boat Saturday she sits a 71 feet. Water temp varies but at Depth it was 55 on the Wreck. Nothing too technical about that.

We visit wrecks and 165, 155 as well. Temp can go down. Last time I did the 155 wreck the water was 39 degrees in July . Of course we do stuff and 30 - 50 feet too. Some of the guys do lots of Deco, some do not.

Depending on how full the boat is, i am sure now one would mind if you tagged along to get a feel for the boat. Some times we have 2 boats go out.

Hi, I am assuming you dive the Ann Arbor No. 5 I have been looking for a boat to dive this wreck. Do know if there are any boats going that way soon and who I could call to get on one? Also how is the captain with solo diving I don't have a problem with buddy diving but prefer wreck diving solo.

Thanks
JT

About Saturday,
I really wanted to dive, I had given peggy a call about the progress of the Pony Bottle (Needed to send back my obsolete Dacor Reg- for a Mares Abyss) She said it wasnt in yet. I then asked if she was diving on saturday, she said no, but Paul was. I went over to buy a hood/vest combo- incase i was diving on saturday, I should have rented a tank as well. By the time i called Paul, to ask about tanks, the scuba shop was closed, and I didnt want to wake up at like 6:50am to go to the shop to rent a tank, then drive over to north holland fo the dive at 8:15am. I had poorly planned my schedule. When I get back from Turkey, I'll be sure to do a bunch of diving.

I think that the wrecks, like fireboat, as well as the shallower dives fit for me. I dont have trimix or deco certs, and Im not old enough to get them, so that means i cant exactly dive "with" then at the same depth. Do you think on dives like that, I'll "watch" them at 100-120 feet? I'd like to increse my underwater time, as well as number of dives. This would be an interesting way to do it.
Thanks very much

I do not have tri mix or Deco certs either, I plan my dive with no deco. If i get into deco it is only a minute or two. The others do 20-30 minutes of Deco. We just pair up accordingly. On the Ann Arbor No 5 for example it goes to 165 However Everything you want to see is no deeper than 135. The wreck sits on a slant with the Stern at the highest point is about 110, Bottom of the props is like 135. The rest is hull and rail track. So if your comfortable with 120 as your max you can see a lot of a wreck like that.

On deeper dives I'll hang with you at what ever depth your comfortable with ( others may be willing to do the same, till you get a few more dives under your belt. I will probably hang real close to you as I do not know how you dive and keep and eye on you. Buddy diving..:D

we do dives shallower too

PM me and give me your email address.

Yes Ann Arbor No. 5 is one of the wrecks I was referring too.

I would call or go into the shop mentioned above. The boats however are not shop owned so I can not speak for the boat or its captains. However the shop would be a good central contact.

Hey Philoman,

The AA5 is a nice, easy, deep dive. I was fortunate to be among the first to dive her when we lcoated the wreck in 2005. We released the numbers on that one right away since the chance of anything turning up missing before proper documentation was completed was very slight.

The SS Michigan also will be a great dive site -- for tech divers anyway. Jeff Vos, Bob Underhill and Todd White have done extensive video and still photography of this amazing intact wreck but we are waiting for a promised visit by the state police's new ROV before releasing the numbers to the tech diving community. Hopefully the numbers will be released late this summer or early fall.

We may even have another dive site or two to let everyone in on as the result of the 2006 search season. Stay tuned to the MSRA web site (below) for news. ;)

I hope you enjoy diving for as long as I've been able to (35 years now and hopefully a lot more!).

Thanks!
