Funny you say that. I describe this dive as being you see EVERYTHING or noting at all. It goes both ways depending on the time of year. Really, sometimes we see practically nothing. Last weekend, we could barely see through a huge school of crevalle jacks. Then there were bull sharks, lemon sharks, and a few goliaths. Really, it seems like it's all or nothing.

I have dived "The Cave" now known more commonly as "The Hole in the Wall" several times beginning back in the early 70s and as recent as five years ago. It is an exciting dive, done every time we have done it as a drift. The depths are how shall I say--rather deep. I recall depths to 140 feet and if your not careful you might find yourself much deeper as the bottom falls away from the promitory the cave is cut into rather steeply. I have seen sharks, turtles, big fish and all sorts of stuff there and once not a darn thing. I would call this an advanced drift dive. You will proabably send up a sauasge and do an open water deco while on the drift. The lead diver will carry the boats provided team bouy. I have done it solo a couple of times and with a three man groups the others. Once I found nobody would take me out so I hired a boat all by myself. What the heck. The cave is quite large and a great swim through, the current flows through it and sharks will often hang in the cave. I have done the dive on a single 80 and I have done it on double 72s. I have it on an old video I made somewhere but sorry no pictures. I want to say the cave is probably 50 to 60 feet long at the longest and about 30 feet wide and about 12 or 15 tall, that is just from memory. I think the top of the celing is about 130/135 and the floor --uh--deeper. Take all of those numbers as approximate for planning as it has been a while since last there. It is a deep dive, strong currents.

One other thing, someone said they were dissppointed because all they found was a large undercut. There is a large undercut I think north of "The Cave" (as I call it) and perhaps that is what they dove. Again, just from my memory. I cannot say the cave is super great unless you hit it when there are sharks and turtles and such, otherwise it is just a fun, deep dive with a nice swim through. N

Definitely stay with the divemaster. You'll be glad you did if you encounter bull sharks on your safety stop. It's not typical, but has happened to me a few times. Be very conscious of knowing when you are feeling narced and ascend a few feet. It is not a good time to actually try breathing without a regulator because you feel like you are a mermaid. I felt that way once but quickly snapped out of it. Have a great time! I did the dive about 2 weeks ago and swam through a massive school of Crevalle Jacks the entire time. We saw a few lemons, goliaths, and bulls.

Well, I did the dive and had a great time! The dive master suggested that the spearfishers leave their spears on the boat for the first dive (I guess to ensure we could enjoy the most downtime without blood drawing interest to the sharks in residence this time of year). We had a nice drift dive to the hole along the reef, then enjoyed swimming through with the Goliath Groupers hanging out there. There were also some large turtles, reef sharks, a couple lemons, and scads of jacks. At one point I felt like I was swimming through a sea of fish rather than water (but I kept my regulator in my mouth...lol). The viz was great, and I wouldn't mind doing it again sometime. Since Jupiter Dive Center only goes to the Hole on Fridays, I'll have to wait until Spring Break or June when I won't have to work. Anyone want to join me?

Cool report!

Hey, guys! Guess what? My 100th dive is coming up, and I booked JDC (of course) to do it with. It "just so happens" that it's going to be done on a three tank dive on Sunday, April 20, that includes a(nother) dive to the "hole in the wall." Anyone want to join me?d I loved the dive the first time, and am looking forward to revisiting it.

Congrats in advance of your 100th! I just dove with JDC this past Saturday all day and had a great time with them. If I wasn't working, I would love to head down there and join you. Maybe we can hook up with some dives in the future! The vis was great BTW, morning dives 70' and afternoon 50-60'. Not alot of particulate so very clear especially for pics! Have fun!

Happy diving!

Thanks! I dove with them this past Sunday, and the vis was great, as usual, and the dives were beautiful. I've never been disappointed on any dives with them. Let me know when you head down this way again and we can hook up. I love diving with JDC. They know how to take good care of their divers.
