So not so fun fact, my LDS won't let me use their pool during their hours, even if I pay for the time. They say that since I did not buy the gear from them, I am not allowed in their pool unless i take the re-fresher training with them.
what a load of %?/"$&.

so now I will weight my old and new gear to try and figure out the weight difference. I'll go from there and do a weight check on my next dive.

That's the way to keep a customer. Wow.
I just booked a refresher for this Thursday in the pool I use at a shop I work with. I am a HOG/Edge/Manta dealer. Shop sells Sherwood, Hollis, Atomic, and Zeagle. The refresher I am doing is for some OW students I certed a few years ago.
They'll be in their Scuba Pro gear and no one cares.
This shop allows anyone to come in and shake the cobwebs out. If you bought the gear there all it requires is someone who works at the shop be there to supervise and you sign a waiver.
If you didn't buy it there then you either pay a fee or take a refresher. The fee is sometimes waived if you also want to try out something the shop sells with the possibility of buying.
Just refusing someone because they got their gear somewhere else is ignorant. Not to mention a good way to insure people will not be back for other items.

Jim,
Exactly!!! They get pretty much all of my business. I've taken course with them, bought gear there, get all my fills.
I was going to pay their $16.00 no problem. so yeah, back to the drawing board for a LDS here. I need a temporary one as i'm moving this summer anyway.

Sad, my shop offers free pool time every week. Not how to keep a customer base, Ottawa.

Yeah I never had this problem in Edmonton with any shop like TDO or the one on the south side (can't remember the name)

He did say this:

I am not allowed in their pool unless i take the re-fresher training with them.

I don't know what a refresher course costs, but what y'all said doesn't sound a whole lot different to me.

My LDS (one of them) lets me get in the pool with them any time they have room, just for the pool fee, and I haven't done any training with them OR bought any gear from them. I just get fills there. And they give me beer when I stop by the shop to hang out. They are awesome.

the refresher is $120.00.
I am not paying that price for 1 hrs in the pool. I also talked to the owner to see if we can work something out and he told me that I would also need to bring a buddy. A buddy for a shallow pool session. unbelievable. unless that's just me.

I don't need a PADI refresher to teach me how to clear my mask,
I want to do to a weight check and try my new fins. that refresher would be a waste of time
