HOG Regulators - Do you still love them?

The Majors will still be here in 10 years and you will still be able to get parts and service.

How do you know that?

I have all miflex hoses on mine - Cold 1st and 2 HOG 2nd's - with no problems at all including miflex HP hose.

Is the Hog reg the brand where there have been problems with putting a Miflex hose on? If so, you may want to consider that before buying if you plan on using Miflex hoses. If I have that issue wrong, pardon my nosy interjection.

As far as the parts and service, I am given to understand Hog sells parts to the public, so stock up and learn to service them yourself. Additionally, if there is commonality with Apex, you probably won't have any worries.

First off it's not a good idea to mix parts from other manufactures, we are dealing with life support equipment, not a starter for your old Ford.
Second it's not a good idea to try to service your own regulator(unless you have taken the service clinics for that regulator).
And last I will take my chances with ScubaPro and AquaLung I think they will be around 10years from now.

First off, skilled members of this board have mixed parts from Apeks with the HOG reg with no problems. I personally would stick with the HOG rebuild kits but would not have a problem using an Apeks kit if that was all I could get.

Second, servicing is not rocket science. If you have enough tool smarts and are a handy person then reg servicing is not a black art known only to service techs at your LDS! 2 of my LDS's do not have Magnehelic's for testing after rebuild, only one has an ultrasonic cleaner and you reckon they can rebuild them better than we could?!?!

Lastly, I wouldn't buy anything from those 2 companies on principle because of their well documented business practices!! Support the companies that support you not the ones that are restrictive as hell.

Not that there isnt at least some truth to what you say, it just sounds like the scare tactics i hear from desperate retailers trying to push overpriced gear. IJS.

If you'd look further, you'd see other brands of regulators and other equipment are advertisers on this board also. People will say good or bad about them regardless of the ad's. The ad's don't change anything. They also rotate. Hit refresh on this thread a few times and you'll see that other brands advertise also.

some of the ad's are specific to content here also. Go mention scooters a lot and you'll start seeing scooter ad's. I don't find it odd that a thread about HOG regulators, in the regulator forum, has ad's from HOG about regulators. duh....


HOG even has a forum here where you can ask manufacturer specific questions. This is a good thing for divers.

HOG offers a certification course to work on your own regulator and it's open to anyone who is qualified.


I do agree in with your previous post that in general it's not a good idea to mix parts from other manufacturers on regulators, even if they are made at the same factory.

While they have a right to make a profit, they've chosen to do so by gaining customers by providing excellent customer service instead of "price gouging" the customer.

don't you wish other manufacturers would do the same?

+1 for Hog regs. A couple of weeks ago I did a dive with Edd Sorenson of Cave Adventurers. I forgot my stage reg and that was enough to make Edd smile, he loaned me a Hog. I dive ether my DiveRites or an Aqua Lung Legend. I have also used several ScubaPros. From the surface to 120ft, nothng I have used can beat the Hog. Needless to say I am now the owner of a Hog and will be expanding that. Check out www.caveadventurers.com for his deals. Chris has done his homework and made a great product and not way overpriced like SP or AL and many others.

I contacted Mike at DRIS to ask for a replacement purge button/face plate about seven days ago but HOG seems to be slow on the response. It is not a usually stocked item.
