I've been diving off the East Coast of Malaysia for the past 5 years and the only sharks I've encountered was the resident whitetips in Tioman. Tourism has definately taken it's toll on the island but on a good day the viz can be really good(20-30m) and the fishlife excellent. Enjoy!;)
