After more than twelve hours of the outrage that cost the life of a diver in the waters of Portonovo, in Sanxenxo, the boat that was involved in the accident has not yet been located and, therefore, its pilot has not been identified. The Civil Guard keeps open an investigation to clarify both extremes and, in fact, according to sources from the fishing sector, the agents would be focusing their research in the marinas near the place where the accident occurred.
In principle, everything points to the fact that the events have been classified as imprudent with the result of death, as well as the possibility that the possibility of an offense of omission of the duty to assist was taken into consideration. In any case, experts in law stated that, if the pilot was not aware of the winding, it will be very complicated, not to say improbable, that charges may be extended to this second offense.
An afternoon of underwater fishing ended in tragedy on July 1 in the Rías Baixas. A diver died when he was hit by a boat in the area of Punta Cabicastro ( Portonovo ), in the Pontevedra municipality of Sanxenxo. The mortal victim is the neighbor of Vilagarcía de Arousa Manuel Ángel Fernández Bouzas, 36 years old. Sanxenxo City Council sources pointed out that the white boat that passed over him fled after the accident. In the same area another person was diving, unrelated to the deceased, who was almost at the same time slightly injured by a harpoon. As reported by the emergency service of Galicia 112, two warnings were received at the same time at six o'clock in the afternoon by several people who were sailing in the area and by the Maritime Rescue teams. From the coordination center mobilized Urxencias Sanitarias, since the diver who was hit by the boat was in cardiorespiratory stop on some rocks in Punta Cabicastro. The team of a medicalized ambulance based in the health center of Baltar, in Portonovo, moved to the place. The health professionals could not do anything to save the life of the diver despite the cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, given that, apparently, the propeller caused fatal injuries. The mortal victim was underwater fishing with another partner.
To assist the other diver came an ambulance assistance. The injured man left the water by his own means and even refused to be evacuated by ambulance to go to the PAC himself.
The autopsy and the investigation will clarify the cause of death and accident
The body of the deceased 36-year-old diver was transferred to the Pontevedra delegation of the Institute of Legal Medicine of Galicia (Imelga), located in the Provincial Hospital, where it is expected that this morning the autopsy will be performed on the body.
The investigation will have to determine the circumstances in which the fatal maritime accident occurred and the responsibility. Municipal sources of Sanxenxo Town Council indicated that, in principle, the mortal victim and his underwater fishing partner carried the signaling buoy that is mandatory to be visible in the water. The boat that ran over the diver continued his course and it was unknown, at the close of this edition, if his crew member or crew were aware of the damage caused to the man with the boat's propeller.
In the operation deployed this Monday in Punta Cabicastro, Sanxenxo's Supramunicipal Emergencies Group, as well as agents of the Civil Guard and the Sanxenxo Local Police, participated in addition to Urxencias Sanitarias.
