I recently made a comment on another thread about hijacking.

First, I don't want folks to worry about my off topic Hijack comment, and I did not do so from a mod perspective. However some folks posting here don't seem to realize there is a whole SB world out there! :D

If you have a equipment question for example you will be get better responses by opening up an on topic thread, even here. Those who are not interested in diving at BH in Feb for example are NOT going to think that there is a drysuit question buried inside that thread. IOW's you are limiting responses to those that are on the thread you are hijacking.

RMO is not a big forum, so you further limit the visibility by posting gear questions here.

I am certainly not going to moderate such things (some other mod if they notice may choose to). For those that don't know, moderators can't moderate threads they are part of, which means I can't touch 99% of the stuff here. There are minor exceptions like making a sticky, or removing a post if asked to do so.

I like our close knit small community, and I've never seen anything here that violates TOS other than off topic. But I do somethings think that members here need to branch out a bit more especially when they have questions about things like gear configurations.

K, just wanted to have that said as I saw a number of responses after I posted like folks were worried I was about to go into ballistic edit mode if they posted off topic. I am not, but this should give you an idea of what was behind my comment! :D

Hi Ron,

I just re-read that other thread and think your comment was both reasonable and polite.
And the responses seemed to take your comment in the spirit it was intended. I didn’t see signs of worry. It all looked warm and fuzzy to me. Just one of the reasons I like our forum.

By the way, how ‘bout them Rockies?

This one time... at band camp... This guy hijacked one of the pieces we were playing....

Ron,

Your post in the other thread was quite reasonable. I didn't realize that Off-Topic was against TOS, when it just kind of drifted off (versus a post intentionally to draw everyone off).

I did get a PM from someone, after your post, reinforcing that I should not be posting in that thread.

I also know "there is a whole SB world out there". I wasn't intentionally asking for others advise on my drysuit, until you and Tom posted your experience when Tom's new suit. Since I've met Tom, and he has a neoprene dry suit (that I didn't know about until after his and your posts), I decided to ask him questions. I realize now that should have been done in a PM, and not that thread.

I have chosen not to ask the question in the other SB group, because I didn't want thousands of people telling me I can't do it the way I am planning, or that I shouldn't have bought what I did, or 100's of other things. I only wanted opinion and experiences from those that I know and know have some experience diving dry.

Further, I wasn't really asking for advise (other than from Tom) but more voicing my thoughts and concerns about diving that on that trip, and somewhat my disappointment with my LDS. I realize that those didn't belong in that thread now.

I really need to "get wet" before I know for sure what specific questions I need to ask. I'm not sure yet whether I'll need to have the built-in socks modified (they are made for up to size 12, and I'm only a size 9) or whether I'll be able to stuff them in a larger boot/shoe. And how much larger that boot shoe will be depends upon how much sock I'll be stuffing in it. So, until I determine if I'll need to have the sock modified (cut down), I don't want to spend a lot on new boots/shoes, which in turn may require new fins or not. Tom's experience with that, and how much undergarments he needed was something I thought I could relate to, since we both dove wet together, and would be diving in similar environments dry.

So, even though I didn't intentionally post off-topic, it did go there, and you are correct in notifying me of that. I'd much rather receive your polite notice, than nasty PMs or worse have some other mod shut down the thread because of my ignorance.

I hope this post is not too far off topic.

Ron!

Hmmmmph.
So you are sitting around at 11:08pm Friday night thinking about this?:dork2:
We need to go out and party a bit on a future Friday night!:rofl3:

There is a lot of advise out there in SB land, that I just plain don't want!:shakehead:

Any time you want to get together, just give me a Holler! :D

But I just don't party like a Rock Star much any more. :11:

As for advise, there is a lot of good stuff, and some bad. But I think alot of Oysters are a bit sheltered. Dan was just telling me how much he enjoyed Shadow divers, and then I told him that Chatterton was on the Board!

He gobbled up his posting history!
