in my childhood my neighbors who used to babysit me were Greek :D
I maintain strong friendship with them up till today (I'm from Alexandria, Egypt - guess you know it has plenty of Greeks & Italians living there since long ago)

Yes I am aware of that my grandfather has been their many times at least that's what I was told when I was a kid. When the sponge divers left Kalymnos they traveled across to the coast of North Africa. I wish I was older when he told me his stories.
Egypt is on my list of places to see. I was watching a program on history channel recently about the underwater archeology in Alexandria harbor looking for the light house of Alexandria very interesting.

I dived the fishermen harbor; huge slabs of baltamic era & some statues are sunken there (said to be Cleopatra's palace). vis there is terrible and site max depth about 8mt. but it is something unique to see not found between museum's walls.
