I'm Deb. For our wedding tenth anniversary, DH and I want to get scuba certification. We'd love to go on yearly dives after we're certified. When DD turns 10, we'll get her scuba certified too. I'm primarily interested in finding the best route for our lifestyle for getting certified. We live in the Atlanta, Georgia area.

We love the ocean, and DH is a salt-water aquarium hobbyist. He keeps a 75-gallon reef tank, and we would love to be able to swim with "Nemo" and "Marlin" in their natural habitats.

It's great being here, and I look forward to learning from this board.

Greetings from Woodstock, GA. Welcome to Scubaboard. I'm sure you'll find this site is of great information and will be valuable in your quest for scuba knowledge. Sounds like a great idea for a wedding anniversary. I know of a few shops here in the Atlanta area that are pretty good. If you would like, feel free to PM me and I could tell you of a few good instructors/shops. The most important thing when picking an instructor/certification agency is to ask lots of questions. A good instructor can make or break a scuba course. I am also an aquarium enthusiast. I have 7 tanks right now. I used to run saltwater tanks but now run natural aquariums (freshwater+plants). I find running a tank of this style is about as painstaking as running a reef setup. I am looking back into setting up another reef though, as I love saltwater critters/fish/corals. Good luck on your diving quest,

Matt

Thanks for the warm reception :10:

I have already learned so much by "lurking" around. ;)

Welcome! It's always great to see fellow southerners on the board.

Be sure to check out the New2Diving forum for some discussion of other new divers' experiences.

Once you're certified, you may want to check out the Florida Conch Divers forum. It's a great place to learn about the freshwater springs that aren't too far from Atlanta.

Best wishes,
Grier
