I have a disk herniation at C6-7 with no symptons or pain for the last two years. I have always wanted to avoid surgery, and since I have not had any pain or numbness or tingling for two years now..I wasn't concerned about it. Now I want to get my OW certification and my PC says no because of the disk. I took the Discover SCUBA in Belize last year..did 3 dives with no problems. Anyone have info or experience with diving and cervical disk issues?

I had C5-6 anc C6-7 fused a year and a half ago. Started with shallow/short dives three months after the operation. I am now diving doubles (steel) with no problems whatsoever.

I have 3 lumbar disc's that are herniated and have no problem diving. Mine are L3-4, L4-5 and L5- S1. They usually bother me when I stand in one place for more than just a couple of minutes. As I stated earlier, I haven't had any problems with diving though. Not sure about the cervical vert's, but if your dr. won't sign off for you, you won't be able to get certified. My dr. thought it would be great since your in the water and weightless.

You might get an openion from DAN who are more knowlageable about diving medicine and take it to your doctor as a refrence.
