So I just purchased a brand new 5mm wetsuit (2-pieces: jacket and pants - not overalls).
The problem: This new wetsuit seems to require me to wear maybe 10kg worth of weights! Does that sound excessive? With a typical 3mm shorty, I only need about 4kg of weights. With no wetsuit, it's about 3.5kg.
I actually only needed 6kg or so with this new suit to descend, but by the end of the dive (with an AL tank) I cannot stay down, even when finning straight down full force. Bumping it up to 8kg didn't help much either, so I assume 10kg may be needed, but that sounds like overkill. Is it normal for just an extra 2mm to increase your buoyancy by that much?
One buddy thought that either it was super-buoyant because it was brand new and hadn't been broken in yet, or that maybe air bubbles were being caught inside. There are times when I feel air bubbles traveling through my suit towards my ankles as I descend head first, but I'm not sure what would cause that. Maybe the 2-piece design? Any advice would be much appreciated.
