Well, it is not the AMF Voit valve. That valve has a peculiar squared body. So it is something else.

SeaRat

So the mystery deepens. Just making an uneducated guess... Perhaps it is from a manufacturer that went out of business? Sportsways had an SW logo on their valves. Healthways had and H. What other companies may have been around in late 60's or early 70's that started which had an R for a logo? Did Rondine make valves?

Rondine translated from Italian is the bird "swallow"

Rondine is a model of a fin

Rondine fins were marketed by Cressi

Well now, don't I feel silly. That explains the bird outline on the fin and the shape of the blade. Opps.

So the tack I was going with was a manufacturer that is no longer in business. I re-read your article on Orange County and I see you have Riffe listed. Could Riffe have marketed a valve to go with the spear guns? I cannot for the life of me think of a US manufacturer that started with the letter R.

Someone who has been a fire chief for many years told me he remembers Rayco making valves. Figured I would throw that thought into the discussion.

While in the process looking for something completely different stumbled across a company on the web "RATERMANN INC.who still list having links with "SHERWOOD" maybe just maybe it might be the answer

I had to look.
Ratermann Manufacturing Inc. | Fastest gas connectors, cryogenic bulk hoses, compressed gas | RMIOrder.com

Since they didn't have a "established in" date I searched around and found:
Ratermann Manufacturing Inc in Livermore, CA is a private company categorized under Plastics Processing. Our records show it was established in 1999 and incorporated in California

It is going to be tough trying to find a manufacturer that may have been out of business for decades, and may not have been a real player at the time, but keeping my eyes open.
