Makushr1:
I always have a hard time buying clothes. I am about 5'8, small waist, but very broad shoulders. I have been a competitive swimmer for a long time, so I am very muscular. I usually wear a medium shirt, but some of the shirts are really tight around my shoulders and chest, while a large is too long and baggy. Any Ideas on the size of a wet suit, or what brand? I dont want to drop too much on it, so any help?
With respect to size, your best bet is to check out the size chart on a company's web site or in its brochure. Most makers of wet suits have multiple sizes -- not just S, M, L, XL 2XL, etc. but 2, 3, or even 4 configurations (short, tall, fat, thin, etc.) of each of those basic sizes. Just compare your measurements (height, weight, waist, shoulders, inseam, etc.) with the various configurations until you find the size of wet suit that best fits you.
With respect to brand, I am partial to Pinnacle wet suits (PinnacleAquatics.com). I own a Pinnacle Fusion 5/4 mm. It cost me $340 Canadian (about $290 US at present exchange rates) -- perhaps more than a university student might be able/willing to pay, but a good investment nevertheless.
In any case, I am sure that more experienced members of ScubaBoard will have more good advice for you than I've been able to provide. If you follow up their leads, I am sure that you'll be able to find a wet suit that fits your body and your wallet, and will serve you for many dives to come.
