Interesting. Another potential point of regional confusion; when talking Scuba in the U.S., the 'Channel Islands' tends to refer to a group of 8 islands off coastal California, which are grouped into Northern Channel Islands and Southern Channel Islands.

The Jersey thing is pretty straightforward. Channel Islands has caused confusion among certain groups, especially when doing research and you come across references to the German occupation of the islands during WWII and go "what is this all about" then you realize it is the English Channel Islands versus the Santa Barbara Channel Islands, which while having an interesting WWII history, they were never occupied. That distinction goes to Attu and Kiska Islands in Alaska.
