I just got a VYTEC with the transmitter and leaving for a trip tomorrow.

While reading the manual, I found out that the transmitter will shut off if no pressure is changed after 5 minutes. However, I may run into a problem if it does that, so I am wondering what is the solution for your VYTEC owners.

Normally, we gear up everything before the boat embarks. Thus, we need to open the cylinder valve, and synchronize the transmitter and the VYTEC. However, it takes more than 5 minutes to reach the destination for the dive. Then I can imagine that VYTEC will show "FAIL" as the transmitter is shut off and the VYTEC couldn't receive any signal, according to the manual.

So I wonder whether the only solution in this scenario is to close the cylinder, wait for 10 seconds, then re-open it again? Last time I tried this approach and it did not work.

So could anyone tell me how to handle this? Any alternative approach to prevent it from happening in the first place?

I am leaving tomorrow so I really appreciate your quick response.

I have had this problem as well, and at the surface, you can just simply turn HP off in the preferences and then back on again. Then it will re-synchronize. You can't do this at depth, though.

That's pretty much the only way to deal with the problem.

Don't know if I'm too late but a quick, light purge on your reg will keep the transmitter transmitting.

no hassles no worries reliable either way.

I do that too. The wireless transmitter is nice, but I don't trust it implicitly. I've never had it fail on me, though, once it has sync-ed properly. Only when I have my rig off and I move away out of range has this happened.

Its not a problem.

Yes, it will stop transmitting. But it will NOT reset the code unless the pressure falls to under 150psi. So you sync up, it stops sending, the computer goes back to "CODE" and you hit the purge (or BC inflate) before stepping off, and it resyncs - just stick your arm back there for a second or two before jumping in.

If you want to MANUALLY reset the code, hit right button until the code is displayed, hit LEFT (the arrow will light up) and then SELECT. That will clear the code. That ONLY works on the surface though. You can also turn HP off then back on, but that's the hard way.

BTW, there IS an issue underwater - if you do a valve drill on doubles and breathe down the post the code WILL RESET. This sucks as you can't resync underwater. Suunto knows about this; I have a beta version of a new transmitter (different firmware) that requires TWO repress operations within a short period of time (30 seconds or so) to change the code, so a valve drill doesn't reset it. I've tested it and it works - the code, once set, stays the same unless INTENTIONALLY reset with those operations, even across a (single) pressure loss.

I used to have a backup analog SPG on my kit with doubles, but no longer do with the beta version of the firmware - it has resolved the issue for me.

BTW, I've NEVER had trouble with the wireless transmitter - not even in wrecks or other overheads. With my regs it is VERY well protected on my doubles rig and IMHO is actually safer than a regular SPG as there are fewer things to snag or break and its been 100% reliable for me.

Great! Thank you very much for all the feedback. I managed to access this site during my trip and used various tips you gave here, and my VYTEC worked great! I love it.

However, I did encounter a weird problem. In one day I used air for my first dive and nitrox for my second one. Three hours later when I was back to my hotel, I played around my VYTEC and found that I couldn't switch back to air! Basically, the options under Set-Set Preferece-Model reduced from 5 to 4, and the option missing is the option to switch from Air to Nitrox or Gauge. This option was back the next day though.

Do Anyone encount this problem? Why the option is missing?
