Hi everyone my Wife and I are flying into cancun on the 6th of march @ 2am and need to be back (@the moon palace for a convension) by the morning of the 16th
We have always dreamed of going to belize and now is our chance. But the only thing stopping us is land and water and the info on how to achieve this. we really want to get to ambergris caye, san padro
I understand that one may take a bus corozal and a flight from there to san pedro
is there not flights from cancun to san padro or even a water taxi
may be some one out there may have the answers or have done what we are about to
please any info is great as we are not well informed of this area.
places to stay
must see and do's
along with how the heck we are going to get to ambergris caye from Cancun when we arrive @ 2am and back to the moon for an after noon drink.
thank you
please help

Bus to Chetumal, taxi across the border, bus to Corozal, taxi to airstrip, flight direct to SP. Difficult to do it in a day, but possible.

I may be wrong, but I think the URL given above is ancient.

I have done this trip many many times since i travelled back and forth to holland on many occasions form cancun and its actually not too bad

leave cancun at 9am arrive and be met by personal escort (I can arrange it for you eaisly) 20 minute ride to the border of belize, the guy I use gets you through very easily and extremely quickly then its 10 minutes to the airstrip flight leaves at 3.30pm to san pedro (they have even more flights these days) and arrive in san pedro around 4pm so if your planning a 3-4 days trip its very easy from cancun.

Be sure to take the first class bus $20 U.S and has several movies on the way be sure to have something warm with you as I almost thought I was inthe Antartic with the A/C thats on the bus it was bloody freezin

If you decide to do it drop me a mail and i can arrange to put you in contact with the belize guy that will meet you off the bus as you arrive in chetumal and get you over the border to the airstrip he charges $30 U.S for that service and its cheap as chips especially if the borders busy.

Peter is correct at this time I am not aware of any flights direct to belize from Cancun the link provided is from years ago when there was a flight but that is no more

Have a great trip

If you are looking for a place to stay on Ambergries Caye you might check www.ramons.com We stayed there last year and for the first time on the island it was very nice. There are less expensive places and their web site will take you to anything you ever wanted to know about Belize and Ambergries Caye. Go the the message boards and you will find one specific to Ambergries Caye. Best start loooking and booking as the better places will fill fast. Good luck.

several years ago, we stayed in xcalak for a time, at the bottom of the yucatan, and got a 1.5 hr boat ride from there to ambergris, arranged easily by marina mike, whose place we stayed at (hotel marina mike's, was at one point linked to www.xcalak.com ). the whole thing was pretty loose--and we weren't on a schedule--but we were able to get a ride from cancun south that mike was able to hook us up with. i think this was a lot of good luck, rather than good planning, but just to let you know it is possible....ps if the whole ambergris thing proves too unwieldy, i would consider hanging around xcalak or mahajual to dive the reef and the chinchorro banks. have fun!
