I'd appreciate any help on this. From what I've been reading, it looks like backplate wing is the way to go. Could someone list all the parts I'd need and good brands and how much approximately I can put these together from an online retailer? I've asked a couple LDS but each is adament on the brands they carry and the prices are through the roof.

I've been tempted just to order a Balance BCD and go with that minus the hassle of finding the best deals on all the parts. If you can help me out with this it would be great.

I got the hogarthian rig from DeepSeaSupply and am very satisfied with it. The flat profile of the SS backplate keeps the tank close to your back so it's low profile, and the -5 pounds buoyancy takes weight off the belt for those of us in SoCal with 7 mil wetsuits.

Transpac II - ~$700
Transplate - ~$500-$600

Piecing out your own harness system as follows:
SS Diverite Plate - $135
DiveRite rec wing - $300
Hardware and webbing - $40
--------------------------
$475

buying the namebrand special package deal(which is a Diverite product) from NESS
$330

I just ordered my Namebrand special from www.northeastscubasupply.com
shipped to NJ it cost me a total of $338.99...and I had them round up the extra penny to a nice round $339.00

Hi,

I would go for Oxycheq's stuff especially their wings. Their plates are decent cept they have less holes then the other plates out there.
I found this on ebay:

I spoke to the owner Kelly and he's a real nice fellow who would take the time to really understand your needs and recommend a suitable setup.

I've not had much luck in contacting www.northeastscubasupply.com they just said they had problems with their mail and wanted me to call them... like I'm going to do that from Singapore.

Cheers,
SangP

I second NESS. Great service and price. I got the DR package (transplate, venture, ss plate, ss cam bands) and am very pleased.

For singles, you'll need cam straps too if you bought the $329.99 special.

If your serious about building a BP/W rig, contact FredT about a back plate and hardware. From there its deciding on your favorite wing. I went with an OMS because I got it for about 30% of the list price (had 2 freshwater test dives on it). What is on my short list of wishes are either the Halcyon Eclipse or OxyCheq Signature Series 30# wing - I have had the opportunity to dive on the donut shape wing since I purchased the horseshoe just like the feel a little better... but I'm not complaining - the switch to this set up has increased my physical comfort dramatically.

While I have a Rec wing and mostly dive singles I have had no problem with it. But, I would recommend a wing with a right shoulder dump valve.

As for recommendations on where to buy....Im outta that business.!!
