The SubGravity T1 looks like a potential Petrel killer if they offer AI.

Sure, but when will they fix their service problems? those are many bad/frustrated posts here on SB, unlike the shearwater service which is always getting posts about how good it is.

How come the sub gravity or the genz black aren't options? They're currently the two on the table of choice for my next from an o.g. suunto cobra.

People have spoken favorably of the H3 (SubGravity and SeaBear are the same thing). The xDeep/Genz Black has a couple long threads here that are worth checking out.

I have an xDeep BlackBT and it's alright, but certainly nowhere near as nice as any of my Shearwaters.

Screen size is too small. It has the same screen size as the H3 (1.7"). The T1 just has a larger body and the wheel interface. The benefit of the H3 is the smaller form factor, just a little bigger than watch size. The T1 really doesn't get you anything other than a different style of interface, which, despite having yet to play with it, I can't really see that it would be that much better than a 2-button interface. I can't imagine that it would be impressive enough to get a Shearwater user to switch, and will probably appeal to new buyers, or technophiles. I have been known to be wrong before.

The Petrel has a 2.4" screen. Doesn't seem like much, but in fact is much larger. Of course the whole computer is much larger as well.

I'm not aware of any reported customer service issues with the H3 or T1. In fact the Rep is active in this forum and has been very helpful.

Thanks for sharing. You bring up a good point. Is there a particular reason why the Petrel is still without AI?

Without stirring up a hornets nest, let's just say there are varying opinions regarding it, and the AI argument (and it will turn into an argument) has been well hashed out. Shearwater does not view it as a "feature" of worth.

No AI for a good reason. The Petrel is a computor mainly for tek divers. Ai is far from ideal for tech divers that bring multiple gazes :)

I think gas switching is pretty far down the list in terms of reasons Tec divers don't want a transmitter. (Is there actually anything else on the list besides the idea that it is a "potentially life threatening failure point" as someone stated above?)

:d

@RJP. The list is long about the reasons NOT to have AI. I just picked up one than no one can argue with, becaus ethis discussion has been covered elsewhere in 20 + pages. FYI, I never used AI and never will :)

Hi Nuribromanski,

I am surprised to hear that you are aware of service problems with SubGravity and the H3. We take great pride is making sure that our customers are 100% satisfied with any and all service issues. (There are actually VERY few service needs to begin with). If you are aware of any specifics that we can do better at, we would welcome your input and ask that you contact us directly so that they can be resolved.

Kind regards,
Randy

Unlike Freewillow and some others, as a recreational diver I would not buy a petrel because of it's lack of AI. I am interested in the H3 but will wait until the AI feature is available. My first computer was not AI and I ended up trading of for one that has AI.

I think he may be confusing Seabear/SubGravity with xDeep, as both companies were mentioned side-by-side in a previous post. xDeep has had several issues.
