Regarding using two strobes for macro. I position my Ds161 as close to the body and angled inwards so that they overlap so the subject gets good coverage. The distance between the lens and the subject is very small and you need the strobes in close to provide coverage. Backscatter isnt an issue as their is only small amount of water between the lens and the subject.
On the other hand wide angle work strobe placement is a big issue. I personally like my strobes in close to the housing and placed a little behind the housing at the same time angled away from the lens. This works great if your getting really close to the big stuff and want good coverage. Having strobes out wide is also good but sometimes the subject gets too close and you get a shadow in the middle of the frame.
hope this helps
