In 'flash' modes of the HF-1 you would have a 'focus' light mode (the 1500 lumen light you mention, but three levels, low/med/high) you could use, but it's not the same (not as bright) as the 'video' mode - that's actually a good thing on a night dive: at night I typically leave it on 'low' or 'med' so as not to blind my buddies.

In video mode there is no flash, just the light. I tried video once, so far, on a night dive (with domed diffusers) and it was bright... like Mack-truck-on-a-highway underwater bright, lol.
Thank you very much for the explanation! That was a huge help! I ordered the HF1 today. I'll try not to blind my dive buddies. 🤣

Here's couple photos I shot with a pair of the newest Ikelite Ecko strobes. Just grand kiddos playing safely at the surface on a warm summer day :)

All shot on TTL and the Ecko TTL circuitry works with Olympus RC TTL and other camera flash protocols too. They're small, use 4 AA NiMH batteries for quick recycle and even without diffusers cover 117 degree beam. An included diffuser widens it even further at loss of one f-stop power.

DM with any questions!

Here's the set up used. Canon R100 mirrorless APS-C 24 megapixel camera with Canon RF-S 10-18mm lens (most shot at 10mm), two Ikelite Ecko strobes on TTL with the Ikelite TT5 fiber optic transmitter on the housing.

First pictures shows Ecko strobes and the new Ikelite RC165 fiber optic TTL strobe for size comparison.
