I have an old integrated SeaQuest BCD and just found that the weight pocket on the back is ripped. I don't know how it happened but it pulled away from the seam. BCD is going on 20 yrs old... Yes, I know it's old, you don't need to tell me. Just bought a new computer and reg set up so I don't want to fork out any more dough right now. Jacket seems to be holding air just fine so I don't think the integrity is jeopardized.

Now, if I want to fix it, I was planning on using some type of adhesive but didn't know if there was something I shouldn't use on it that would eat through the jacket/bladder etc. It's just one side of the pocket that needs to be fixed (trim pocket on upper left back) where it was sewn to a seam. The bladder is attached to the seam so I can't just re-sew it. I usually put about 4 lbs in the pocket.

I was thinking of using AquaSeal or Goop or anything else that you might recommend. Any thoughts on the best way to repair it? I need to fix it until I can afford a decent BC. I'm also headed to Utila in 9 days...

I had my chest strap tear off an old Seaquest BC and took it to a shoe repair store. They looked at me funny at first, said they had never seen anything like it before. I showed them what needed to be done. I picked it up a few days later, and you couldn't tell it had ever been torn. I don't remember what they charged me, but it wasn't much.

I doubt Aquaseal will hold a 4lb weight in the pocket. If the thread on the seam is visible on the jacket side you might be able to thread some zip ties through the thread and then thread them through the pocket flap by making small punctures in the flap. It's not a permanent solution, but it should hold until you buy another BC. Try posting a picture so we can see exactly how it's torn. Not all BCs are that expensive anymore. We have a few listed that are under $200.

The easier solution is probably just to put the 4 lbs elsewhere...camband or belt.

Pictures?

You might be able to glue it using aquaseal and adding a layer of fabric on top. As suggested above simply moving the weight to a cam band is another solution.

Sounds like a new(er) BCD is headed your way. 20 years is a well loved piece of equipment :)

Well I actually had an idea to sew a pocket of material and glue it into the existing pocket. That way there would be a lot of surface for the glue to hold onto and the hole would be patched and hold the weight.

It's basically a pocket with a flap and clip that comes over the top over the opening and the clip locks the weight in. Sorry if my description is still bad.

Thanks to all who helped suggest a fix. I'm off to try it...
