No, not impossible. When the port is closed, it is usually only closed to boats of a particular size (i.e. boats that take out divers/snorkellers). The ferries seldom stop running as they are CONSIDERABLY larger and more stable. So yes, when there is no diving on the island, you can grab a ferry to the mainland and go to the cenotes.
Several suggest to stay in Cozumel and only go to mainland if a norte comes and go to cenotes. But if cozumel port is closed this will be impossible. Am I to read these suggestions as a way to deal with a norte that doesn't close the port but is bad enough that there is no diving on the island?

If the family does not dive they're really going to like elsewhere on Roatan a whole lot more than Cocoview IMO. There's no beach, there's no pool and it's not near much of the other activities compared to a resort in West Bay or the West End. Even Anthony's Key would be a better option since they've got a pool, small beach off the Key, plus the dolphin encounters etc. In June weather shouldn't be an issue anywhere on Roatan for diving or anything else.

I'd really look for something in West Bay though - there's some beachfront resorts on the best beach on Roatan with exceptional pools, Gumbalimba park is nearby, there's a zipline there etc. It's not great but is among the better Roatan attractions - even Anthony's is pretty isolated by geography and distance to other attractions like the West End etc. See what you think of Mayan Princess or Infinity Bay - both are beachfront with fabulous pools. And good snorkeling right off the beach.

Fully have to agree with all of the above

Thanks for all the helpful posts. I think I have talked the family into going with me to cocoview or elsewhere in Roatan in June. And Bonaire flight schedules aren't working for me. So I'm thinking it will be Cozumel / Playa. Probably diving with blue angels, scuba club cozumel, or aldora.

One thing you might not know about, is if a norte closes the port and the island to diving, and you're diving with Aldora, you may have the chance to experience diving the east side of the island, which few people ever get to do. Aldora is the only shop that can dive the east side when a norte comes in.
