So I had a stupid little icon for Quicktime from a failed install (nothing else, no way to uninstall the litlle @#$(*@#^ and today I decided out of desperation to try another install so I could complete the install and then uninstall.

Of course, you HAVE to get iTunes and iPod stuff to get quicktime, so I went ahead, figuring on uninstalling everything afterward. WEll, quictime installed but it locked up on iTunes, and now I have files on my computer that I can't even delete!

Beware of ever putting any Apple product on your machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I know why Apple computers are more reliable. They have to be because all the software is Apple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, does anyone have any ideas on getting these files off of my computer?

Have you tried booting into Safe-Mode and then deleting them?

funny u should say this, I just deleted this annoying plug in this afternoon, kept stalling my whole pc.

Just be careful deleting random files related to QT wherever you find 'em or you'll end up with more trouble than you have now.
What OS are u using? you can stop it starting up when u reboot by going start--> run-->msconfig

choose startup and find quicktime on the menu and un-check it. then try uninstalling it after another reboot.
QT is a pain in the a$$. great on a i-Mac but painfully stubborn in windows!!

Although if you do a custom install you should be able to avoid installing anything other than the QT player itself.

Lemme know how u go! I feel your pain, I worked tech support in IBM for 3 years ;)

Funny, I downloaded Quicktime without getting iTunes just now. You only had to click the "QuickTime Standalone Installer."

In any case, you can either try Safe Mode, boot directly to a command prompt, or whatever to actually delete files. However, you will probably need to go to the registry (HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run) [edit: this is essentially the same as doing the msconfig -> Startup trick] and/or Startup folder to delete any QT or iTunes programs that run on computer start.

I'd also try reinstalling the whole shebang. If that works uninstall it then install just QT without iTunes.

Or...you could just admit defeat and make the switch.

Apple...the only way to compute...it's like DIR for computers...:D

So far I've had...no pop-ups, no virus attacks, no crashes, no tech support needed, no "drivers" to install and frankly...my powerbook looks better, weighs less and has a longer battery life than any PC laptop I've ever seen.

Ok, now to turn the system on....

Well...I don't hit the "start button" to turn it off...:D

Yes, Apple! They're great.

Too bad you can't build your own and getting a halfway decent computer will set you back at least $1300 - and that's for the cheapest one that comes with a processor less than three years old.

Also too bad that I can get a PC that's three times as fast and can be easily set up to do all the things you listed. For less than half the price. Including the LCD, but minus the shiny plastic and inability to upgrade.

I guess Apple computers are fine if you're fabulously wealthy and don't want to do anything other than read SB all day. They're more like the Mares HUB than the DIR of the scuba world...

Hmm, I find that Apple is wonderful.

I haven't had any problems with their software, and their computers are great, except for the large price tag.
