My wife and I are about to begin our initial scuba training, along with another couple. It should be great having built-in dive buddies and travel partners. Our instructor is my buddy Joe, who works summers in Baja at the Cantamar resort. Classes will start some time in the next two weeks. I can hardly contain my excitement! The four of us have gone shopping, with our instructor, for all the basic equipment: masks, fins, snorkels, boots, and gloves. It's a good thing Joe was with us. He was able to help us choose quality equipment for reasonable prices. Sports Chalet has a 15% discount if you buy mask, fins and snorkel together. I have crawled all over the Scuba Diving magazine website. Lots of good stuff there: equipment reviews, articles, tips, etc. The reviews were very helpful in steering me toward the mask that I eventually bought.

Well, it's good to be here. Actually, the guy in line behind me at Sports Chalet told me about this website! Thanks for the tip!!! See you all in the oceans of the world........

I took my classes last January and was certified last May so that first experience of underwater breathing is still fresh in my memory.

If you haven't done it yet, the very first time you take a breath underwater is the moment you understand that a whole new world has opened to you....

Glad you found us... hope you learn a lot and find LOTS of new dive buddies as well! Tell Joe we have an Instructor to Instructor forum designed for guys and gals just like him. Only Dive masters and higher are allowed, so you can't see it yet! Still, he might want to come and visit us.

There you can find clubs in all the major states/regions represented, coordinate meeting up for dives, getting together, trips around the state to different dive sites, and some general prattle about diving.

Another forum that may interest you is The Art of Scuba Diving. Under that heading you'll find New to Scuba, Dive into Fitness, Public Safety and many more that as you become involed with the sport may or may not interest you depending upon where your intersts grow.
