Hello from Virginia - (re)bit by the bubble bug

Hi All

Just thought I'd post a hello and introduce myself. My husband and I have been diving for a number of years now but after moving from Upstate NY, to Virginia it (surprisingly) became more sporadic. Although chilly, we dove the fingerlakes almost every week in the summer with a great local dive club.

We thought we'd dive more in VA, but finding local places to go is proving to be a challenge, however this past weekend we had the opportunity to leave our 3 year old with a neighbor and go blow some bubbles in Lake Rawlings...I was bit by the bug hard and hope we get to go more often!

If anyone is from central virginia I look forward to hearing about other diving options. Smith Mountain Lake??? Lake Anna? Others??

Check in with the Richmond Dive Club. (http://www.richmonddiveclub.com/)
You can also check in with the LDSs in the city. There are three in the West End
and no less than one on SouthSide. The stores in the West End will be glad to
talk with you.

As for me, I've not dove much around Richmond. (My wife prefers Blue Water.)
The lakes around Richmond are soft bottomed and tend to be dirty.
You've found Lake Rawlings. Your next shots might be
Virginia Beach, the Outer Banks, or Hatteras. The LDS as well as RDC run regular
trips to the Atlantic as well as Lake Rawlings.

(You had me going for a minute. Our new neighbors moved here from upstate
New York. But they have dog and no children.)

Hey Jim

Thanks for the advice. We've actually dove OBX 1x and VB once also - both times the Vis was nasty bad - as bad or worse than the fingerlakes - do you know if this is typical.

I'm all for blue water myself - we've dove the Keys a number of times and love it there, just can't get there often enough.

I've seen that there is some diving in Smith Mountain lake - an underwater city and stuff - now I just need to find access.
