Hi - new diver from Kingston, Ontario area. Newly certified (ACUC with Kingsdive). Not much diving up here right now unless you are into under-ice diving. Had a dive off the (Great) barrier reef about 15 years ago while at a meeting - put my hand in a giant clam and got hooked (emotionally). Retired - spent some time on Long Caye (Glover's Reef - Slickrock/Off the Wall) in Belize last April and took an intro PADI course - three dives in that week. Superb people there. Only other dives are four certification dives on wrecks in the Kingston area. Nice, but excitement is in the tropics. Zebra muscles, bass and silt only go so far. Older than most but hope to do a lot of diving in the next few years. Got some new gear and want to use it. Planning another trip to Glover's in the next 6 or 7 weeks - perhaps to Manta. Gaz Cooper's site looks interesting, also. This is an excellent site - I have a lot to learn and this looks like a good place to continue the process. As an aside - any comments on Witch's Rock surf camp in Costa Rica? Are they kind to old people?

Hi gerry, scubaboard is a great site, you will like it. How cold is it? Do you plan on ever doing the ice diving thing? See ya around.

Plenty of us coldwater folk around here...

Welcome... this place has got to be one of the best resources available on the web. Lots of experts, lots of fun people, and great support from a variety of individuals deeply involved with the industry.

I'm in the same situation as you right now. Here interior Alaska, our only local dive options are in the ice until late April. But still... it's all a lot of fun, any time you're underwater.

Take care, and welcome!

Kingston isn't cold....you have to travel many miles north into Canada before you appreciate what cold is all about!!!! Try Northen Manitoba...now that's cold!

Costa Rica is one of the most beauftiful Countries to explore..both on land and underwater. If you decide to make the venture...you wont regret it...I've been there a couple of times, travelled the country from coast to coast and it's a magnifisant experience...go for it...You wont regret it.

dark cold diving...(and that's way north of where you're from)....

Please don't be so quick to count out diving in Kingston. I agree it's not much for color, but some of the best wrecks I've seen are out your way!

From one newbie to another, welcome to ScubaBoard. It's good to know this forum isn't only for the young!

Hi: Yes - the wrecks are OK - and as someone else on this forum noted, there are actually 8 species of fish. And - I can't believe that I spelled mussels wrong. I am a biologist for god's sake. Maybe getting old is having an effect.
Gerry.
