Yet another new guy. My entire life I have wanted to do this but living in Wisconsin I really didn’t think it was worth it.

I started doing some research about opportunities to dive in the Midwest and took the leap.

I just passed my Open Water and Nitrox classes and eager to get back in the water and work on some skills. I have a vacation to the Keys planned in 3 weeks and a pile of new gear to get sorted out.

I have already found so much help on this board and look forward to sharing conversations and stories.

Welcome! You've got Lake Michigan right there, just have to accept the idea of diving in the cold water!

My open water was 50 degrees. I dove with a 7mm Henderson and it wasn’t bad at all.

Grew up in Kenosha - got certified at Racine Quarry. Dove red rock quarry, beloit, lake michigan, lake geneva, some lake near madison (trash collection event), and a couple others I can't remember. Dove year round (in wet suit - thick) for a couple years when I lived up there. I MUCH prefer the tropics, but diving is available and I think the colder water with limited visibility makes a stronger diver. Enjoy it there, and enjoy a tropical 3mm shorty dive when you can get to the warmer water!
