Hi everyone!

New diver here who recently got certified PADI OW back in March. I enjoyed diving so much that I just completed the AOW course a few weeks ago! So far, I have dove La Jolla Shores Canyon, Cove, and the Marine Room. I am hoping to dive more of southern California but also if I travel internationally as well.

Eventually will take the wreck and deep diver courses to gain more knowledge and experience later this year.

So far I've been to La Jolla Cove & La Jolla Shores.

La Jolla Cove is ~0-30ft, has kelp, seagrass, and some rock structures where you can see some critters.

La Jolla Shores has the "Marine Room" which is about 0-30 feet in depth as well.

La Jolla Shores Canyon goes very deep but around the 50-60 feet area you can explore a ledge and find some critters.

Since you're a new diver and just to be safe I am going to provide you with as much info as I can/learned from others as cold water is a bit different than warm water (I've only known cold water diving). If you already know all this then please don't mind the tid bits of info!

I see your location is Hawaii, so some considerations from what I know are that SD will have cold water at depth ~50-55 degrees Fahrenheit, which means 7mm wetsuit and a thicker wetsuit is more buoyant so that may mean more weights to keep you down.

The visibility can be anywhere between 5ft to 25 ft depending on the day but more so 5ft-15ft range.

La Jolla Shores/Cove has waves so I use -> Conditions to help check swell conditions.

There's a few scuba shops, Ocean Enterprises, San Diego Diver's, Scuba San Diego, Zach's Scuba Shack that can help you with rental gear, provide more info, and offer guided dives!

There are other places like Point Loma & Mission Bay but I haven't been to those areas so I can't comment. When you get your Advanced Open Water/Deep Diver, Catalina Island and Wreck Alley are other places you should put on your list too!
