From my home town (Houston), if I want to see a whaleshark in a clear blue water, I’d rather go to Isla Mujeres, Mexico (for 2-hour flight, $400 to Cancun, not 15+ hour flight, $1500+ to Hormuz Island).

you mean in Jordan there are some rules forbid entring SLR cameras?

Twice the customs guys gave me a hard time on entering the country with one along with the UW housing and strobes and I was interrogated as to what they were for.

On one exit from Jordan I was also informed that it was forbidden to carry rechargeable batteries in the cabin, resulting in calling the Emirates station manager to handle the situations I wasn't about to hand over 16 Eneloop AA batteries just because some official was making up rules that could possibly be ignored for a special consideration.

I had similar problem in Frankfurt on my way to Dammam. The Custom agent would confiscate my 16 Eneloop AA batteries from my carryon, unless I checked them in. Since I have 3 hour layover, I actually went out through immigration to Lufthansa counter checkin counter and checked my carryon in. Then I went back in through the immigration and security to the boarding gate. What a pain in the rear.

Dan, now they prohibit all sorts of batteries in the check in and want you to carry them in the hand baggage!

I argued with the ill informed “Polizei” about her decision and told her that’s the Lufthansa policy, but she won’t budge. I figured I had time to do it.
