Hi everyone!

My name is Jan and I live down south from you in Orange County. I'm an avid beach diver and have over 350+ logged dives.:05:

I love to camp and dive and am hoping to dive Point Lobos sometime in July. I am having a hard time finding a camp site (Tent or tent trailor) that is near or between Point Lobos and the Monterey Peninsula:huh: . Can anyone make any recomendations?

Or, it there a nice, inexpensive hotel that you would suggest?eyebrow

Thanks so much in advance for your help.:10:

If at anytime you are down in my direction and would like to do some fantastic beach diving in Laguna Beach, give me a jingle!:D

Hey Jan, when I dived Lobos I stayed at the Lone Oak Lodge, http://www.loneoaklodge.com/ it's a basic but diver friendly lodge, gear rinse tanks, etc. Just don't show up after 10 or 11 pm! (can't remember which) :)

And ask for the divers discount.

Thanks Chris for the info. That is actually where my friends are going to be staying. Since my bf and I will have our kids (his and mine) with us, am trying to plan this out the most economically way as possible. We all love to camp, so that is why I was hoping for a camp site near by. I know there is a KOA, but not sure how close that might be to Point Lobos, ect.

Hey Jan,

I don't know anywhere to camp around Monterey, but if you ever want to come up to the North Coast and do some real adventure diving there are a zillion very nice places to camp starting in lower Sonoma County all the way up to Mendocino County up to Fort Bragg. I know it's quite a haul from OC but I do it regularly, just in reverse.
There are some really nice places to dive at very uncrowded beaches. The underwater terrian has lots of fantastic and dramatic structure and tons of life. Just imagine about 80 miles of continuous Point Lobos.
Another big bunus is there isn't someone telling you that it's against the law to dive without a buddy or a snorkel, and you don't need a reservation to dive anywhere up here.

Hi Jan,

There is one campground I know about in the city of Monterey, but they don’t take reservations. I stayed there once, I had no problem getting a place on a Friday night, but that was about 20 years ago. I’d call and check with them about your chances of getting a site, it might be relatively easy during the week.

Since you mentioned maybe bringing a tent-trailer, there are a few RV parks in the area if you don’t mind those kind of places (not my favorite kind of place, but more economical than a hotel if you’re traveling with a crowd). I stayed a Marina Dunes once http://www.marinadunesrv.com and also one other place, I think it was this one http://www.carmelrv.com/ . I liked Marina Dunes better, but you can hear the highway.

None of these places are more than about 15 or 20 minutes from Pt. Lobos.

Enjoy your stay!

I will definitely keep this in mind for the future. I ended up booking a room at Lone Oak Lodge since that is where the rest of our group will be staying. I was hoping to go a bit less costly since I just got back from Roatan (http://mydivinglife.com/DiverJan/). We are booked to dive Point Lobos on the 29th of July. Am looking forward to it!

Hi Jan, I camped and dove down there a few years ago. We stayed at a camp ground not all that far out that even had a pool. I could dig up its name if you are still interested.

PS Have fun, I love diving that area. But with the price of gas it is hard to drive down with the zodiac now.:jpshakehe
