Hi all. After years of it being on my "things to do" list, I finally got serious and got certified. I live in Salt Lake City, but I have an on-call schedule here, so I couldn't ever set up organized classes. So, for vacation, I decided I'd snorkelled Hawaii enough, it was time to dive! Conditions were poor with a heavy South swell in Oahu, but it was great experience and I had a blast. I can't wait to get some more dives in and I'm happy to be here to gain experience from everyone else.

Hi Andrew Cat Nanny here. Poor conditions? How about 4 degree water temperature and viz so poor you can hardly read your computer, you know your on the wreck cause your knee just hit metal! That's the great south coast of uk during the winter, but hey no one forced us down there, we're just all stark staring ravin' about scuba!
Be happy and enjoy every dive. The great saying at my club when we've surfaced, is 'Dived and survived!!' Have fun.

Welcome to the board.
While waiting for another opportunity to dive as they say here - you can dive everywhere....

Hi Andrew:

You could always join us in Bonaire for your next trip. :winky:

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

Hello, and welcome to SB! :)

I like your UserName. I life on the desert, too, and have to fly further for good diving. Don't let it stop you. The diving around Calf's Channel Islands is super. :crafty:

enjoy don :cowboy:

Lucky bugger being able to learn in HI, keep at it though!

Hello and welcome! ;)

Thanks everyone for the welcome!

MoonWrasse: I have not yet dived the Bonneville Seabase, but I've checked out their website and I hope to get out there sometime this month. It's cold and rainy in Salt Lake right now, so I'd love to get a chance to head to the bottom and the 80F water temps!

CatNanny: 4C water temps? You're definitely dedicated! I suppose I can't have the warm waters of Hawaii all the time. I'll have to dive some of the cold-water lakes we have here in Utah and see how I do.

Natasha: Bonaire would be fantastic. I've always been partial to the Pacific since I grew up on the coast of CA, but I hear great things about Bonaire, Curacao, etc. Guess I'll start saving now...

DandyDon: I went to college in Santa Barbara and we used to surf and free dive in the waters of the Channel. Too bad I didn't dive back then since the islands were right there. It's a good reason to go back though.
