Hi, I just got certified last month and am planning to go to La Jolla next week ... any advice? Where's the best diving for a beginner? Thanks a lot!

Hey EditChick,
I dive La Jolla Cove a few weeks ago. It's fantastic. Parking is a challange. Public shower after diving to rince yourself off. H2O temp in the 60's. Beautiful bikinis everywhere, easy access to the beach and short surface swim.

I suggest you talk to some other divers to get the orientation before you get into the water. It's a beautiful dive site. Enjoy!

=-)

I'd say - KEY LARGO! :tree: Nice, gentle, warm water, boats geared to beginners, and so forth... :D

No, really, I'm sure there's some good places there. I've only dived out yonder once - three tanks off of Catalina: cold but neat! I'm sure some locals will respond this evening, or - check with the local dive shops for Starter Dives.

I'll be doing Catalina over Labor Day Weekend, if you're interested...

Welcome to the fun bunch! D-Don

Thanks for your replies! I'll definately be doing some diving in the LA area, so I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of questions!
I'm doing La Jolla shores and the Marine room next week- but will check with the LDS for info before I get in the water. Any advice on finding a local dive buddy that won't hate diving with a newbie?

Hello !!!

I just got back from diving in San Diego...

If you are looking for a diving charter I would like to suggest
the Loisann.

http://www.loisann.com

The crew was great and they also have on board Nitrox.

You can dive the kelp beds, Catalina, etc...

( Shallower depth's but very nice. )

I felt very safe with this outfit.

I dove the wrecks of the Ruby E. and the Yukon...
Wonderful Soft Corals.

( Know your limits, this might be a little deeper then you might want to go. )

Dive safe... bob:)

A good website for SD: http://divebums.com/

I would say the best diving for a beginner is probably the under water park in Catalina.

As for the Yukon, you may want to wait and gain a little more experience...
