Heli-hiking and heli-skiing make sense but heli-diving???

I have done a few helicopter dives to the ribbon reefs off Cairns. The boat ride can be two to three hours, so if you're feeling flush and sleeping late is a priority for you, you may be able to justify the cost. The way it worked was they had a floating wooden dock moored at the site. The helicopter landed, waited while I dived, and took me home. I don't remember how much it cost, but it is worth doing once, I think, just for the experience. The diving on those reefs is second rate by Coral Sea standards, so there are better ways to dive if you find yourself in Cairns.

That video presents a situation that is so preposterously goofy that SCUBA Board had to have been created just for it to be talked about.

No pilot in his right mind would fly with two fully geared-up amateur bozos who could afford to hire the chopper for the day... just to say they did that.

Most people have trouble with a giant stride, much less a synchronized jump out of a very noisy machine.

They're selling helicopter tours and island transfers... with a silly video.

I love, love, love to skydive and clearly I love scuba diving. I've done some flights in a helicopter which is quite different than a plane. I think I am curious enough, if given the opportunity, to try it (as you said, at least once). Curious why do you say just once... Not as exciting as you thought it would be?

I Found one video here:

Curacao Scuba Diving - Dive Charter Curacao the best boat dive adventure in the Caribbean.

It seems like the boat is already on site when the divers hit the water.

w/o watching the video... I'm sure that 90% of the people being end up knocking their mask off their head and loosing their second stage when they hit, sucking up water...

I imagine that boat is onsite there just because of that....

Never underestimate the stupidity of some pilots and people.

Oh, I enjoy helicopters a lot. I used to use the downtown heliport in lower Manhattan--which was a couple of blocks from my apartment--to streamline the trip to Newark Airport. (Not as expensive as you would think, and no waiting at check-in.) And when I have the urge to flush extra money down the drain I take the helicopter from Hong Kong to Macau to gamble and eat good Portuguese food. But the heli-diving I did in Cairns did not involve flying in gear or jumping off of the helicopter into the water--it was just a commute out to the reef with my dive bag in the back seat. So, not a lot of adrenaline involved. More like heli-commuting and diving than heli-diving.

Ah got ya. I've seen this type of diving but have never spoken to anyone that has actually done the heli-diving... Yeah simply flying to the site wouldn't be very exciting.

Portuguese cuisine :thumbs-up
