A couple of weeks ago i was doing some shallow getting the hang of it doubles diving, i was in the water for around 3 hours, then after a lunch break back in again for another hour. I slipped my fins on and popped the spring straps over my heels - they nestle nicely where the back of most normal style of shoes also sits. After all that diving i drove 2.5 hours home with my heel resting on the back of my shoe on the gas peddle, then drove and dove again the following day. After that weekend (thanksgiving) i felt i had a sore achilles heel. It seemed to go away over the week, but this last weekend it came back up when i put my spring straps back on and still aches today from saturday's dives as well as when i walk and the back of my shoe rubs that same spot or drive and some pressure is put on that area.

I have the large commercially available spring straps and they havent really done this to me before, i think that maybe my foot wasnt all the way in the pocket and so the spring was a little tighter than normal and bruised my heel over those few hours. I am going to try to rectify this by making sure my foot is jammed in there and maybe putting some kind of cushioning between my strap and my achilles in the future. In the meantime here's the question "what should i do to rectify this and make the bruising go away?" I have taken ibuprofen to take down any swelling, i have to be around all day and walking so i cant rest it too much. It hasnt really swollen, just gone red, so i wasnt sure if it was even something worth putting through an icing/heating cycle or two - and is probably fairly late to do that anyway. So what can you guys suggest, it is now becoming an annoyance and i know i have plenty more diving up coming for the rest of the month and beyond which i would prefer not to miss out on!

BTW - Yes the title was meant to be a pun just in case someone wondered if i knew how to spell heal.

howdy :D

I'd stay away from heat, if it is bruised- bruise = bleed. therefore you wanna stop the bleeding. Therefore ice for about 15 mins. let the skin go back to its normal temperature, then later on ice it a gain. Once you haven't any problems with movement restriction you should make it through

Tis a sore bone to bruise- you only have a tendon to protect it- and even that doesn't really protect it!
