Hi,

I just wanted to know what are some disadvantage of those heavy duty cases (like one made by Pelican) and some advantages.

Seems like these heavy duty cases are not as popular.

Thanks

While I like my Pelican I never use it. To start off with it weights around 25 lbs, that's 1/2 of the 50 lb limit for luggage. In comparison, my soft side suitcase is around 8 lbs and has roughly the same volume. I have enough trouble keeping the weight down to 50 lbs per bag as it is, giving up 15lbs -18 lbs for the hard case is not worth it. In addition, it screams "expensive stuff inside" which makes it a more interesting target for theives. A small hard case for my camera in carryon is one thing, but there is no real advantage for checked gear.
