ok the boat is filled up so I need a place to dive on Sunday the 30th (and maybe even people to dive with). anyone got any ideas? I wanna dive!

There still may be some cancelations for Saturday. My two co-workers are on a waiting list.
If you want to dive Sunday, Laguna beach has been closed the last few days to divers, (I dove there friday, then they closed it due to high surf, plus the VIS was 5'. It was quite interesting. Went to Palos Verdes Sunday and yesterday, Tuesday, and it was pretty nice, decent VIS, water temp pleasant, (even with a 3mmm shortie), no surf, mild surge.

thank you, blue_steal. I'll see if my friend wants to do that. we did reserve some ferry thing then we'll just do the marine park. I don't know if she can cancel that.

Normally I'd volunteer to go diving on Sunday with you. Alas, MotoGP in Indianapolis is on Sunday and I can't miss that.
Here's a good dive on Sunday 30 AUG 09 that you might enjoy going on if you can't make the Great Escape on Saturday 29 AUG 09:
World Aquatics Adventures http://www.waascuba.com/index.htm is hosting a wreck dive trip for 2-dives at the Palawan artificial wreck and 1-dive at the Avalon real wreck. The boat is the Pacific Star and boarding begins at 9 AM (you're not going far from the San Pedro harbor to the wreck sites) and depart at 10 AM. Cost is $95/person and Nitrox is extra (how much I don't know, probably no more than $10/fill).
The Palawan was a WWII freighter that was sunk as an artificial reef. Its keel is sitting on sand that's 135-ft depth, and the bow is at around 100-ft. Very cool wreck.
The Avalon was a real wreck and it's in pieces. I think the depth is around 70-ft.
I hope that you can get on the Great Escape with us, but if not then your weekend shouldn't be a total loss if you were to want to do this wreck dive trip. They have a few more slots left.

I'd hate for you to come out this way and miss out on some good stuff. You and your friend would enjoy diving at the Palawan. And if you need tanks & etc., I'm sure that World Aquatics would bring whatever you need to you (for a price, of course). It's a good little shop out of Bakersfield (which is where I'm at right now). I "think" that there will be some tech divers going out on that dive.

I'd love to go out and dive with you, but I'm actually taking a class this weekend. For some reason, I thought you were coming September 30th, not August....
FWIW, I would not recommend the Palawan for you and your friend. Your friend is a new diver, right? 100-135fsw is too deep to take a new diver. Also, with 32% or air, you really don't have the time to enjoy a dive this deep, imo.
The Palawan is one of my "goal dives". I want to be able to dive it on a gas that will give me the time and mental capacity to enjoy it, and have plenty of gas for a deco obligation....none of that is possible on a single tank (safely, imo).
There's lots of shore diving around that's appropriate for your friend's level. I don't know how the conditions in Laguna are, but you really can't get yourself in trouble (depth-wise) down there. I think you guys are planning to go to Casino Point, which is absolutely fantastic....if you can get on a boat on another day, you will have a great time as well....shore diving is fantastic, but without an experienced local, sometimes it can seem less than rewarding.
I hope you can find someone to go out with, or hop on a boat or something....whatever you end up doing, I hope you have a great time!

thanks ligers and tions (btw, I LOVE your screen name). Yeah, I'm celebrating my 29th on the 29th of AUG, not Sept. I do know about your class from the other place. good luck with it!

All of Laguna is closed again today due to high surf and 2' VIS. Surfing yes, diving I'm afraid not.
