Hey guys, I'm a New York diver headed down to northern VA in a couple weeks, and being the addict that I am I'm thinking about diving. Is it still warm enough down there for a 7mm wetsuit (above 50f), and if so what would be a good dive site? Is it possible to dive the Chesapeake Bay? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Spencer

Millbrook Quarry is open on weekends but only through November 16th. A 7mm would however be fine.

I suppose you could dive Chesapeake bay but it is not the world's most popular dive site. Divers Den in Baltimore runs oyster dives during the winter and there are dive boats in Indian River DE and Ocean City MD. Ted Green (OC Diver) funs an excellent boat but he wraps up his season at the end of October.

I guess there is not enough of geographical difference to really distinguish New York's dive season from the Mid Atlantic's season. Those Baltimore oyster dives sound fun, but I think I would need to get my paws on a dysuit first. For future reference (since I have family in the area) is there shore diving on the Chesapeake, or on the barrier islands off MD, and VA?

You could dive off Calvert Cliffs state park. It is a 2 mile hike from the parking area to the beach. I would suggest putting a small boat in and motoring around. I have dove off Calvert Cliffs a few times and would like to do it some more.

Looks beautiful, I don't know where I would dig up a small boat and motor though. Non the less, seems like my kind of diving. I'm thinking I may head down in a week and a half. I'm willing to take the cold, but I'd need a buddy.
