What is customary tipping for a boat dive ? How about a guided shore dive or a night dive ? Do most shops have a tip jar on board or at the store ?

On a boat dive I tip about 15 to 20 % if the dive master is friendly and knowlagable. In Maui I have always had a good time. I'm going to do a shore dive with Doug when we go next time.

On a boat dive, 5 to 10 dollars per tank depending on level of service is what I see, though many divers tip less, and few tip more. I put the tips in the tip jar if there is one. For guided shore dives, the DM is making a lot more $$ per hour than on a boat, but tipping is still appropriate. Again, $5 per tank is a good average, plus or minus for crappy or outstanding service. Steve Eady's practice equate to about $20 to $25 for a 2 tank boat trip, making him a good tipper in my book.

Whew... I thought from the subject line that the islands were tipping and going to sink into the sea.

Steve, you will have a great dive with Doug, any idea where your diving?

I've always loved the line: "Big Tippers Go To Heaven!" I think I saw it on a bumper sticker once...

Hey Steve, I hope we get that dive in one day! I'm almost ready to get back into some regular diving again. My back is slowly getting better, I am walking without crutches (sometimes), and I'm feeling like it's almost time!! For now I've had the good fortune of going with kind folks who have offered to carry my gear for me so I can get to and from the water with just my wetsuit, mask and fins. I've been diving a 50 and the weightlessness has been fantastic on my body. The next people who dive with me are gonna see someone with a huge smile on his face!!!

Tomorrow I'm attempting the Maui Ocean Center Shark Tank Dive as a Birthday gift/dive! I can't wait and will give a full report if I make it out alive! Huge Thanks to my friend and Kanaka Brother Jake "Popeye" Jacobus!!

SHAKA BRAH!!!!!!
