I just don't log dives
Yes I know they recently closed, although I have no idea why. I just bought their compressor off of ebay and will be down next weekend to pick it up. My question is can someone tell me if they sold nitrox and if so how they blended it? Nitrox stick and partial pressure?

Did they have any kind of fill station? Did they have some kind of bank system, as I am interested in also purchasing the big bottles if so?

Was there any other cool stuff that should go in with a home fill station?

Are there any good shore or boat dives near by? What about affordable hotels near to the area? We are hoping to get in a couple of dives while down that direction.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Peter

Has no one ever visited this dive shop?

I would really appreciate any single piece of information you could offer.

Thanks in advance!

First, just a quick note that I'm totally bummed they closed. I loved that shop and the staff, and miss them already.

As for your questions - no, they did not do Nitrox. I don't have any more info on their setup, but they probably did have a bank system.

Good shore and boat dives? Heck yes. You could take the ferry out to Catalina and do the dive park, or hop on a boat in San Pedro to Catalina, or Ventura to the northern channel islands. Beach diving can be had in Laguna or Malibu, and Redondo is a great night dive. PM me or search the board if you want more info.

Sucks cause we are losing one dive shop, today is their last day, and I would not be surprised if another doesn't follow over the winter. The local shop closing is what prompted me to purchase a compressor. Does anyone know why they closed Haven's Reef? Sounds like a health problem or something? <Pure speculation...

Thanks for the reply :cool2:

Does anybody know the owner because I need to get a receipt for warranty purposes!!! or if someone can give my email to him marty_rk (a) hotmail dot com

What I heard from the person liquidating their inventory was that they left the country. That is second hand info though, not fact. Contact the manufacturer and explain the situation to them. Can't hurt to ask.

I will try. Scott has been a little hard to get ahold of. I don't believe he left the country, though.
As far as local diving. Anywhere in the Channel islands. Do you want a cattle boat or would you spend some extra cash for a 6 pack?
Up here, we have the Peace dive boat or the Raptor. they go out frequently to ana capa and santa cruz islands.
Down south, the magician is my favorite big boat. Or the Psalty 5 . He never takes more than 7 or 8 divers. The cost is more, but, I think it is well worth it. he does a lot of Catlina and oil rig trips.

Thanks for the info. We were down there last weekend to pick up the compressor, during the lobster opening, so no luck getting on a boat. We did do a shore dive and ran into a bunch of SBer's though at Old Marineland.

Were you there on sat or Sun?

We picked up the compressor on Friday and dove Saturday. Ken, Claudette, Melvin, Max bottom time, and his dive buddy, along with Angelica were all there.
